For My Sweet Relief
You uncrush my spirit trampled by clumsy words with heavy feet that step carelessly on my smile.
You alleviate the pounding in my head that repeats the same painful sound again and again now made softer each time, the light once harsh to my eyes now dim and diffuse like air.
You quiet the voices that tell me I’m not enough.
(You shush them and send them home.)
You detangle my knots and steady my breaths and dissipate my fears.
You sneak up when I am not looking and steal my pain. (My favorite game.)
You never announce your arrival.
You never promise to stay. (Because you never do.)
But, when you are here... ahhhhhhh.......
Nothing is sweeter than knowing you are here and I am no longer suffering and I can be in that moment with you for a while.
