numb necessity

my lips could not form

the words I required to

tell you of this pain

Music...and my mother, father, and aunt

Well I started randomly singing songs when I was a kid, just making them up as I went along playing, and one day, while I was still little, I decided to start writing some down. I was filled with so many different ideas and was obsessed with becoming a singer that I made music a big part of my life, as it still is today. I was little when I believed I could write good music but it didn't stop me from wanting to. I still now like writing songs that perhaps one day might be sang, even if it's not me singing. So then I started having my own thoughts and opinions and I always had a metaphor or "inspiring" words on my mind. One day I decided to start writing them down. I love it. I love when I get an idea and it forms something that I grow to love. So I guess I have music to thank for my obsession with words.

Inspiration to Write...

A soul with no voice,

That was dying to live.

A goal and a choice,

To inspire and give.

They came almost constant,

Surrounding my spirit.

Words overflowing,

And no one could hear it.

Leather bound freedom

...I was given a leather bound book with no words. It looked so regal with the golden design upon the front, back, and spine. The pages became a playground where my invisible friends took form, a place where no one could find me, a place I could feel safe.

I don’t know

I started in 5th grade with poetry but teachers believed I had plagiarized my poetry, so I stopped. It was not till my 8th grade year I picked up the pen and paper and wrote down my poetry. I decided to give it to my English teacher as a gift. She was so impressed she asked me if something was wrong, I said no I just felt like writing. Today my mother asks me how I create these poems, I say "I don't know they just come to me." I guess you could say I did not find poetry or writing but it found me. What inspires me to write, writing it self, words it's self the message behind it and the infinity of what can come from your mind through your eyes, to your hand, to the pen then paper. But I find now sometimes I don't feel my writing is ever finished my inspiration like I said above well now that I think of it my inspiration is unending. it is mine to keep and people to try to find out.—Terra

Opuss

I started to write for the first time almost three years ago after downloading my first dedicated writing app.

It is called Opuss.

It is still out there and still has a core band of loyal followers, of which I am one. Before I joined Opuss I had never written anything other than the occasional letter.

My Inspiration

My inspiration to write was always the fact that anything you dream could be possible. There are no limits, and that completely amazes me.

Writing

What inspired me to write was when I was in first grade my teacher would always give us a little prompt about what we did over the weekend my best friend and I would write for hours and write. Once we were done writing my teacher would give us stickers or skittles for how many pages we would write.

Validation

It was the year 1999 and I was in fourth grade. At this time, I didn't identify with writing, or with being a writer. But then something inspirational happened. My writing teacher, from the sheer goodness of her heart, chose to read my one-page piece on Redwall's Baby Rollo character - something she did every six weeks or so to feature a student's talent as a means to inspire his or her classmates. I don't know how inspired the class felt while she read the piece aloud, but in that moment, I felt a pure, innocent sense of pride, of satisfaction. This moment made me think, "I am a good writer! I have talent. I can keep expressing and improving this talent!" And ever since that moment, I've been a passionate and confident writer. For the next three years, up until the start of middle school, I obsessively created all kinds and sizes of writing - short stories, poems, books - secretly obsessed with becoming the next J.R.R. Tolkien except at the seemingly ripe age of 12.

Now it's nearly the year 2015. Writing about this memory has thoroughly filled my heart with an abundance of gratitude and anticipation. Thanks.
