Challenge
Twist Ending in 50 words or less.
In such a short amount of words it is hard to tell any story. See if you can write a story that sets expectations and subverts them in the word limit. Change the genre from horror to funny or the opposite. Or trick the reader into believing there is something there is not and reveal it in the last line. Surprise us. Here is an example of a short story by Hemingway: For sale: baby shoes, never worn.

Escape

"How will we escape?" I asked.

"We need a diversion. A big one," he replied.

"I have an idea," I said. I telepathically reached out to our human guard, who was playing on his iPhone, and began subtly manipulating him.

Perfection

Today was finally the day. The venue was beautiful, the flowers perfectly arranged, and she had everybody she loved in one place. She had the most beautiful dress on. All eyes were on her.

What a perfect day? She thought as she laid a flower on her dead fiancé’s chest.

Perspective

A haunting chant floated through the door as we pushed it open with a creak.

Inside, the giant image of a tortured man loomed on the wall.

And someone was feeding people… a body!???

I seized my friends’ arm. “What is this place?”

She smacked me. “A Catholic Church, silly.”

Indelible Ink

Spring yields summer;

Thoughts of you

Fists of flowers;

Blush and blue

Fall, crimson leaves

Rain’s pounding kiss

Moon’s silver weave

Pierced cloud‘s eclipse

Season’s, hues — all syllables

But, green speaks best of you

In volumes, writ indelible

By hand, in black and blue

I awoke to the sounds of my cat loudly purring next to me, which wouldn't have been so alarming if I hadn't remembered that he had died several years prior.
