Twist Ending in 50 words or less.
In such a short amount of words it is hard to tell any story. See if you can write a story that sets expectations and subverts them in the word limit. Change the genre from horror to funny or the opposite. Or trick the reader into believing there is something there is not and reveal it in the last line. Surprise us. Here is an example of a short story by Hemingway: For sale: baby shoes, never worn.

Rip.

There is a sickening crack as it snaps apart, smearing the white blanket with a thick scarlet substance.

“These fries are too crunchy,” he says, chewing on one nonetheless.

Down it Comes: Extended

“Rapunzel, Rapunzel,” the knight cried. “Let down your hair!”

“Anything for you, handsome,” Rapunzel replied. She set to unbraiding her very, very, long hair. The knight waited patiently. After two hours, she called down: “I’m done!”

“Great!” The knight said. He paused expectantly. When no waterfall of golden locks tumbled out the window, he added, “can you toss your hair down here?”

“Whatever for? It’ll get dirty.”

“So I can visit you, of course.”

“Oh! Silly me. I’ll do that right away.” Down came the hair. The knight dutifully grabbed it and began to climb. Surprised at the sudden weight, Rapunzel screeched as she was dragged out the window. The knight landed on his butt as Rapunzel crashed next to him. She did not survive the fall.

“Oh dear,” the knight said.

Dragon in Distress

Princess Bethany thinks it says something about the intelligence of the King’s knights that they continuously ignore the large letters she had painstakingly scraped into the side of the castle’s main chamber spelling out ‘THE WITCH TURNED ME INTO A DRAGON’ in favor of stabbing her with swords the size of her toenails.
