Architect

Patterns hidden in eloquent quotes

Crocheting blindfolds made of lies

Eyes covered- in ignorance burned

Those hurt wore a complacent facade

Teary cracks on their skin, seen

Feeling the boiling blood of resistance

But burying instincts under concrete

Ignored, puppets of fear they became

Constructing Zeus’ throne

For those thriving off their work

Poisonous fear silencing their voice

Message molded to its taste

Allowing privilege to play Jenga with their rights

While ignoring themselves as the Architect of change

A Love Poem to the Intangible
Write a love poem to something intangible.

Homeland

Beaches of glass

Crystal clear reflection of your past

While bones are scattered in the sand

And ashes dance in the air

Flowing through corpses

Littered on the streets

We are all tied by the ankles

Hoping you don’t drop the Anchor

But you do

And then you burn the truth

Constructing a perfect facade with the smoke

But I get loose

Floating to the surface

I survive your sentence

But the guilt haunts me

Grabs me through the hair

Lifts me to the top of Mt. Everest

And then lets me fall

I see their blood coloring the ocean

But even sharks know to stay away from you

The smoke might have cleared from my mind

But I still have the scars from your anchor

And I can’t leave you behind

I can't hate you

Challenge
Write a Ketek
One of my favorite authors, Brandon Sanderson, created a short poetry form called a ketek. It’s a short reflexive form of poetry in which every word is mirrored around a center word. The word forms can change, noun to adjective, future past, etc (ex: happy can turn into happiness, slept to sleeping or sleep). You can put in any punctuation but no added words that don’t mirror. Here’s an example from one of his books: “You, always about dreams. My soul weeps. Farewell weeping soul. My dreams about, always, you. “ So the challenge is write a ketek. It could be about whatever you want, just follow the rules.
