Sunset at Dawn

I open My Eyes and stare at the crowd

As a river of ants, they wander the mound.

I look to the East and see the once proud

My Sun dying slowly, dripping into My Ocean to drown.

I open My Eyes to those at hand

Run for your lives! It’s your minds they demand.

Not money, not riches, but power to grow.

Leave you belongings, get up and go.

I open My Eyes, a white ocean–I see

No one, anyone, everyone but me.

They cast me down a corridor, doors thundering past

They roar for more toxin–I’m jetsam–I crash.

I open My Eyes, softened walls–I see

An ocean of walls, how can this be?

I look to the East as the sun was dying,

As the tide of an ocean, it is but rising.

I batten down My Eyes as they destroy My Ocean,

Piece by piece, through reasoned erosion.

They rip out My Eyes and My Ocean is gone,

I have seen My last Sunset at Dawn.
