The Tunnel

The tunnel is blinding.

I no longer see,

The reason I'm driving,

Now a mystery.

The lights that are guiding,

Brighter than can be,

I know I'm still driving,

I can feel you breathe.

I hear tires spinning,

The ground must be there,

Still I must keep driving,

Your eyes, they still stare.

My eyes are darkening,

It must be from the light,

Though it gets frightening,

I know the end's in sight.

Though still I keep driving,

And though you must still stare,

My resolve is holding,

For I know you're still there.

The Structure

The pressure is building

And they are to see

The scaffolds are rising

And it's all about me

The bricks they are missing

Mortar can't be found

But still it's towering

And the structure seems sound

The fissures are spreading

Focused eyes can't see

The structure collapsing

And it's all about me

The fortunes dwindling

The coffers are bare

There's no more offering

For the structure's not there

The pressure keeps building

They finally see

The structure's a hoax and

It was all about me

Sunset at Dawn

I open My Eyes and stare at the crowd

As a river of ants, they wander the mound.

I look to the East and see the once proud

My Sun dying slowly, dripping into My Ocean to drown.

I open My Eyes to those at hand

Run for your lives! It’s your minds they demand.

Not money, not riches, but power to grow.

Leave you belongings, get up and go.

I open My Eyes, a white ocean–I see

No one, anyone, everyone but me.

They cast me down a corridor, doors thundering past

They roar for more toxin–I’m jetsam–I crash.

I open My Eyes, softened walls–I see

An ocean of walls, how can this be?

I look to the East as the sun was dying,

As the tide of an ocean, it is but rising.

I batten down My Eyes as they destroy My Ocean,

Piece by piece, through reasoned erosion.

They rip out My Eyes and My Ocean is gone,

I have seen My last Sunset at Dawn.
