I am black and American.

I wonder about my place in this country.

I hear laughter.

I see a child.

I want them to be happy.

I am black and American.

I pretend I am floating.

I feel light.

I touch a dark cloud.

I worry I will be absorbed by it.

I cry because the child is dead.

I understand we are all different.

I say that we are one and the same.

I dream that my words come true.

I try to actively make them a reality.
