Unwatched Pot

A simple young child,

it’s time to add spice

and season, until

the heart is of ice.

Crank up the pressure,

the heat to the max,

intensity building,

and now to relax.

Lid tight on the pot,

let simmer and stew.

But how long to sit?

Well that’s up to you.

Your absence essential,

for everyone knows

a watched pot won’t boil,

or so we’ll suppose.

And upon your return,

not the child you seek,

but a young life wasted

by your cooking technique.

Soup’s On

Rose hips

Cat lips

Wing of bat

Tail of rat

Legs of frog

Tongue of dog

Eye of newt

(Ain't that cute?)

Finally some raven's blood

Thicken up with a spud

Mix them up and set to boil

Or if you prefer, 'tis okay to broil

The octopus and cod

Prawns and monkfish

Add to this dish

Courtesy of God.

Garlic adds a little flavour

Peppers, too, if that’s your favour

Mix and raise the heat

Fish paella hot and tasty

Share with friends, relaxed not hasty

Such a fishy treat

Rob the Bees

Raw honey's magic has been hailed

since early human times;

its properties are quite diverse,

but cooking's where it shines.

It can be used for everything

from coffee cake to mead;

but when our honey jars run dry,

we must go rob the bees.

They do not mind so much, I think,

to share a bit with me;

today I've got spare time to bake

this wondrous recipe.

It calls for one cup of whole milk,

a cup of cornmeal too,

a quarter cup of honey, raw;

now stir it with a spoon.

Then add two eggs, a pinch of salt,

and half a stick of melted ghee

(or butter, if you're so inclined;

I will not disagree!)

You also need some baking powder

(a tablespoon, my friend),

a half a cup of sugar, too,

and lastly flour (bread).

Now stir while you incorporate

the flour (it's a cup),

then grease your pan and pour the mix

into the pan- don't slop!

Preheat to four hundred degrees,

and bake it fifteen ticks

(or minutes if you're keeping track)

then prick it with a stick...

And when your toothpick comes out clean,

you're ready to enjoy

the tasty treat the bees helped bake:

a honey cornbread, oi!

A Recipe for Dreams

Toss and Turn

Spin and Churn

Confusion and Fear

Reach Far and Near

No Words and Six Fingers

Foggy Plot and Emotions That Linger

Puzzles and Colors

Hidden Meanings and Endless Summer

Wake Up Too Soon

Not In Tune

Groggy and Cranky

Looking a Bit Blankly

All Wrapped Up

Yet Uncomplete

You've Made a Dream

No Needed Self-Esteem

(I don't usually write poetry so...here goes nothing.)

Pretzel Chicken

Snyder’s hot buffalo wing pretzel pieces,

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees,

Crush the pretzels with a rolling pin,

Chicken breast without the skin,

Crack some eggs and give a whisk,

Give your chicken a little dip,

In the egg and pretzel dust,

give the chicken a pretzel crust,

Place in oven for twenty minutes,

That’s how long until your finished!

Dip in ranch dressing or blue cheese,

Give your pallet this amazing treat!
