Live to read and write poetry. Love classic literature. Jack Kerouac's 'On The Road' was the book that changed my life.

Ride

I watch, from afar,

With disgust and disdain

As passion, fire,

And life within wane

Although, this fate

Has long been ordained

To watch oneself burn

Is a new shade of pain

When fragments of soul

When last life drains

When darkness closes in

And no pain remains

Believe,

I struggled and I fought

Left nothing untried

Understand,

Something within

Tore me up inside

Know,

That I loved, and felt love

All of my life

In words I found solace

And for years I survived

But the end is near

The end of the Ride

The Road

I wake every morning to your cries and your screams

Then remember you followed me all night through my dreams

You've haunted me long, forever it seems

I'm drowning myself, will I ever be free?

I was running without seeing and got lost on the road

The one where your state of denial implodes

All the hurt that you've caused has been locked away, stowed

But here you will face every debt that you owe

I've lived by the road, on past sins dwelt

I've lingered there long, punishing myself

Thinking that all I deserved was this hell

Thinking that happiness should never be felt

The further you run down the road with no name

The deeper you'll dive into heartache and pain

But from sufferance in solitude, nothing you'll gain

Nor be released from shackles of blame

I had my eyes open, but now I can see

To make right what's wrong is to be set free

To fix what's broken is to transcend defeat

This is my atonement, pure as can be.

Ashes

Minding my business

Slowing my stride

Following my thoughts

On an endless ride

Exploring my wants

My every desire

And just like a dream

New visions transpire

Words played to me

Through a lyrical Lyre

My mind lights up

I've become a live wire

My pen strikes the pad

As I scribble with ire

I get the words down

As the page catches fire

Still I keep writing

Adding rhymes to the pyre

'Til my pen runs dry

And my brain does tire

I can't help but smile

As the flames grow higher

And my words float away

For the Gods to admire

A Simple Homage

Your life was taken

You left in a hearse

But I still hear your voice

Across the universe

To your songs I will listen

Each and every day

For the words that you've written

Take my sadness away

A simple homage

To a beautiful mind

Hello and goodbye

To a hero of mine

Lost

I tried to recapture innocent, childlike delight

But I chose the wrong path and got lost in the night.

Challenge
Ok, although I know most of us can be very critical of ourselves, I think we all have a favorite or favorites of our own work. Maybe we posted one that didn't get very much feedback. That is what this challenge is about! That one that slipped by! There may be more than one, but just pick the best and post it here. If you feel like it got neglected or you're just very proud! Post the best poem you feel you ever wrote on Prose! Don't forget, tag me

The Taker

It was hard to decide which to post, but this one didn't get much love, so I thought I'd give it another go.

-----

A cold, cold night despite the heat

Endless talk in the ghost still night

Brought to life by this Summer mist

So enthused, in a reclusive way

The hours fall like the rain doesn't

Soon birds will sing

Alarm clocks ring

But not mine

For on nights like these

There is no time

Bliss creeps in like it's all been reset

Masking the pain the taker has left

One thing my mind clings endlessly to-

There's a pain in my lungs...

And it must be you

The line of defense feeds on the pain she leaves

But the walls fall as the pain recedes

In time all remembered's the happiness freed

She'll give and take everything you need

Dearest Prose

I just wanted to write a little thank you to Prose and the community within.

Before I discovered this place I'd pretty much given up on writing. I had books full of poems, songs, whatever, that would never see the light of day. I wasn't getting anything out of writing anymore so I called it quits. Prose has reignited something in me. Being in a community of like minded people who just want to pour their hearts onto a page and share their writes with each other, wow, I'd only imagined such a place existed. It sounds silly, but there aren't too many writers from my generation, at least not where I come from, and if there are they've sneakily evaded my ever watchful gaze..

I tip my hat to the creators of this wondrous place, you'll never know how much you've helped this boy.

I guess I'll leave it at that..

And once again, I'll pick up the pen..

My Chemical Dream

Lost in a haze of colours and shapes

No car, no body, just thoughts that race

The grass is bright and the road is long

The sky is a broken mirror then the colour is gone

I can move the clouds and the trees with no breeze

Shift all shades, banish shadows with ease

The lights in the store of the night were too bright

The face in the mirror was an imposter of night

We looked as the demon fired a croak of faux hate

And in unison turned, it was time to vacate

Sick of the dark it felt time to restart

Back past the park where the roller doors bark

Solitude appeared a regrettable choice

'Til solace was found in the Lizard King's voice.

Final Dance

Again, I'm alone, I'm high as a kite

It's a habit of mine, I do it most nights

Four days no sleep, you'd think that I'd tire

But I can't get away, I'm lost in the mire

Sorrow and ire form webs in the sky

As nearer I get to the day that I die

Somber this sounds, but peace is near

For death destroys pain, destroys hate, destroys fear

Just Kids

Stumbled in the neon grove

We were chasin' the dream

While Beer chased Tequila

Thus the night was born

Location and intent may vary

Regardless, the vice grips tight

No chance for sensible thought here

No chance, we've taken flight

The money is low, possessions are few

These we don't need, just foreign land to run to.
