the roughness

of my hands

won’t bruise

the gentle

of this feeling

the way you wrap

yourself

into my arms

closer with each

breath

I’m desperate to

engulf you

in this

warmth

underneath my tongue

the neighbors’ peonies

bloomed early

this summer

the sun

is still sinking

in the sky

and we’re sitting

in your car

windows open

under these trees

golden light

flitting down onto

us

just us

just you and me

I think we might be

bathe us

in moonlight

when

I told the story

of before

but

the bitterness

of after

taught me that

it was just

the suns reflection

off a cold rock

a thousand miles

away

that made you look

so damn lovely
