Night’s Mouth

And with that the Night opened its mouth

To gather the stars’ light and swallow the galaxy into darkness.

Becoming a black hole of impossible possibilities,

It breathes a sigh of lightened relief,

A load born to only one that had conquered the light.

The day was never revisited

and transitory spaces of time

became nonexistent.

It was only dark oblivion

or bright sunlight thrown from the mouth of night’s stomach,

only to be swallowed later by night’s fierce appetite.

Who will slay the beast?

What man, woman, or child

will let nature’s natural transition be reinstated?

The man said no,

the woman too.

The child looked up.

and asked the bottomless mouth of night

to eat only half the stars,

only a quarter of the moon,

sometimes a half,

sometimes the whole.

Thus, began the equinoxes,

began the transitions in the night.

Thus twilight took its place,

Next to sunset, sunrise, dawn, and dusk.

And beauty was revisited

And awe was human’s first breath into nature’s abode.
