Long Gone
The painting sits on the wall
The sole decor of the lonely hall
Each year it grows
More tattered and ratted
It’s age begins to show
And solitude does it depict
A man now so decrepit
The artist long gone
The subject simply forlorn
Forever watching and waiting
Staring with bated breath
Wondering if the hall would
Finally be free of the stench of death
Carpet corroded over floors of wood
Times has washed it all
The elixir of life far-gone
Only the picture hasn’t crossed beyond

In a room
I wait
And wait
I kick my feet
Twirl my thumbs
Please I think to myself
I would rather walk in sleet
Anything but waiting
It's so grating
The silence
The buzz of nothing
I shout in defiance
Until I shudder in compliance
And wait
