A Novice

I sent an angel to watch over you

but with a flash he came right back again

he said there was nothing for him to do

angels don't watch over angels he explained

the novices are standing in a queue

to view an angel already ordained

your good deeds reflect a welcoming hue

evil called but vocal chords are strained

Ah, your ears deafened to what you would rue

some angels don't need to be picked and trained

they don't need wings or a feather to woo

their giving and loving ways unrestrained

So maybe you'll come to watch over me

a novice uniform waits patiently

Smokers Lament

Oh, I have tried to give up so many times

Agh, the coughs, sneezes and chest infections

for my health the warning bell peals and chimes

attempted chewing gum and contraptions

resort to keeping hands busy with rhymes

many a time wasted in reflection

collecting and counting pennies and dimes

saved on good months cigarette rejection

dreaming of enough for sunnier climes

this week need willpower injection

as the nicotine monsters screaming climbs

biting my fingernails in frustration

I'm a losing quitter repeatedly

Ah, lighting this smoke in melancholy

Please just Stay

Saw something the other day, I wish I hadn’t. I was at the swimming pool collecting my neighbour’s boy when this girl caught my eye.

There was nothing noticeable about her except she looked lost, a look of sadness that was drowning her from the inside out. She caught me threw me an angry glare.

That's not what upset me I wouldn't like a stranger staring either. It was the bruises when she turned around, the area they were in that hurt me profoundly.

I knew that girl was being abused, misused and I told nobody.
