A Flower in My Memory
The first thing I remember,
You drew your name on the board
And said "this girl is ugly".
You walked away, and I offended,
Thought "how in the world could you not see?"
Who lied and led you to believe
That the flower I saw should grieve?
Nothing made me prouder when
You were on my team;
The games we played were funner then,
The days were like a dream.
And when the demons did descend
To whisper dangerous things,
I admit, I did not understand
How such lies could be believed.
To this day, I still can see,
It may have been your casual grace;
Or the way my young heart fell
When I saw your fallen face.
But I was just a boy,
I had no idea what to do;
I only knew
The thought of you,
Was too precious to risk to lose.
The only thing that I regret
Was not speaking to you more;
Still I see the way you looked,
With eyes that cut me to the core.
