what keeps you going?
i wrote a poem for the monthly poetry challenge for april (it was to write your longest poem). it's called "51. i write too many poems about death" which was 50 reasons why i want to live (in case you want to check it out on my profile for inspiration). i was a suicidal teen, so that's where it comes from for me, but even if you've never wanted to die, i want to know the reasons you want to live - anything from big things to small things
Michellemaq in Stream of Consciousness

2 minutes and 30 seconds

I wrote this poem for my beautiful daughter who is an allstar cheerleader. Last season she was diagnosed with juvenile myoclonic epilepsy she thought she would have to give it up. She has worked harder than ever even through pain. She even had a seizure while getting ready for a competition, her coaches asked if she wanted them to pull from the competition but she didn’t and did amazing, that competition they received their bid to the summit in Florida. The overwhelming pride I have for her is incredible!!

Stillness hides a heart that’s pounding,

Music starts and it’s time for striving,

100% of it all confounding,

YOLO for it’s worth all the driving,

Jumping, flying, backwards diving,

Sweating, crying, bleeding, thriving,

Weeks and weeks of always trying,

3rd, 2nd, then realizing 1st is yours, it was worth the timing.

Open up your eyes, not crying,

Believe you can, there’s no denying,

You’ve worked so hard, there’s no use in lying,

The things you’ve lost are still worth trying.

You started when being little was flying,

Year after year your heart defying,

A heart of gold you’re always applying,

Don’t give up in the end, it's still exciting!

For 2 minutes and 30 seconds was worth all the blood, sweat and crying!

I am 21 years or older.
