Ashes of truth

We were

promised

that truth would

set us free

from sin.

So we set

out in search

of truth and

found only

the corruption of

complacency

and mundane

mediocrity.

The libraries

were full

of unread books

and we

were fed on

reheated, deferential

platitudes designed

to prevent

troublesome thinking.

And as the glamour

from the

precious promises

faded,

hypocrisy

rose

from

the

ashes.
