Our Friend The Moon

They just found out that the sun was a lightbulb

And it's cracked beyond repair

The spacefarer's found that the stars were all stickers

Much to their

Embarassed despair

And comets, they said

Were wishes

That died as frozen corpses

The sky was a lie

And the cosmos, a rumour

And they still don't know

Who told it

They do not know what any of this means

But they asked us to say just one more thing:

That the moon was real

And that it was our friend

And that it would stay with us

Through our brutal and torturous end

That it tried and it tried

With its light and its tide

But could never do more

Than just stay by our side

Later that night, several billion eyes

Stared at the sky as it fell

Their lights reflected off its cold, plastic surface

And a new constellation was spelled.
