Without the Quiet

What they didn't notice, was that in the end, when all the machinery was cut, when the windows were finally shut, when all the surrounding voices went hush, hush, and the overhead lights were dimmed, and the central air was unplugged... when the riga mortis set in, and the blue was nicely forming at the nails of the hands and feet, and giving the face a halo with stiff upturned lips...

it really was the Quiet in between that he missed.
