Black and White

The keys on the piano are black and white.

A penguin’s tuxedo is black and white.

The stripes on a zebra are black and white.

A cuddly panda is black and white.

Complimentary; mesmerizing, contrasting; intense,

The depth of ebony; the purity of snow.

But we’ve been taught to see through a lens

That separates this beauty we know.

White is the oppressor; black the oppressed

We think turning the tables will mend this rift.

But only forgiveness can heal centuries of pain,

Breeding hatred is a dangerous game.

A sky of full stars; a bride and groom

Black and white people are beautiful too!
