Chasing the Sunset

I couldn’t help but write this after I got back from walking to see the sunset and wishing I could follow it.

If I’m ever gone you can find me always

I’m just chasing the sunset before it slips away

I’ll follow those last streaks of light

Cause it’s all that I know how to do

And when I reach the end of the road

I don’t want to face the truth

I know you will fade and I can’t stop this farewell

Still, I can’t help but wish that I could freeze time

I don’t want to turn back towards home

Cause the trail is blackened by night

I’d follow you to the end of the earth

If only to prolong this goodbye

I feel my heart sink when you vanish

And all I can do is wait for the rise
