regret

he's always

looking back

or somewhere else

even when he looks

at you

the distance

in his eyes

shines

and he's not really

here

he stares

and stares

anywhere

but here

and he shakes his

head

sometimes

he cries

not the weeping

of Shame

or the sobs

of Grief

but a soft

mist

darkens

his face

the thing that

bothers me the

most

is that

he can never

sit still

fidgeting endlessly

pacing

back and forth

for hours

in the same

spot

and he never

shuts up

always asking

what if

what if

what if

even if you happen

to answer

he never listens

he'll just

mumble

I wish

I wish

I shouldn't have

I shouldn't have

I should have

I should have

we've been

together

for so long

that you would

think

I was used to this

by now

I used to

ignore him

but honestly

the more I listen

the more I wonder

if he's right
