The Accidental Fossil Discoveries

When I was around 8, I kept making all kinds of accidental discoveries. I'd sit in an enormous pile of rocks near the family's swimming pool and would keep, seeing what looked like giant sharks teeth. I also kept seeing something small with a square-like pattern on it. I actually discovered fossils. The giant sharks teeth were actually horn coral and the other fossils were a type of small sponge.

The reason I kept making these accidental discoveries was because the horn coral and sponges had an unusual appearance to them. To this day, I still have these fossils. I'm glad that I made these discoveries. Maybe they weren't accidental!

My other two favorite discoveries was an iron nodule and a Neolithic scraper. I found the Neolithic scraper by accident for sure. I was 8 when I found it at the Nature Center. It was sitting in a shallow creek.

The iron nodule was also found by mistake. I was looking around on the ground in a field that had construction being done at it for building houses at. I was a nanny at the time and the two boys I cared for were also looking around. They didn't really find anything but I'm glad I did. I thought that the iron nodule was a fallen meteo but looked it up and is how I found out what it really was.

Were these accidental discoveries? Perhaps they were meant to be. To this day, I still continue to find great unusual discoveries which is great. I even once found what looked like a small dinosaur beak at one of my aunt's houses, but found out that it was actually a piece of slag. I still treasure it anyway because of what I thought it was. I treasure anything that I find and still look forward to the day when I discover a piece of dinosaur bone.
