open your heavy eyelids

i know the sun hasn’t risen yet but

you have to

rushing through the house to make that

first cup of coffee

maybe in your haste you can

admire the way earth turns it’s head

for that warmth

feel the cold air and the way it

nips at your cheeks

affectionately, while your feet take you down

the winding road

but take your time

and listen to the way the trees try to shake off

morning dew

notice how the sun dyes the cold air

in it’s loving gaze

the clouds hesitant to crowd around it

but just like you, they can’t help the

space they take up

so they proudly greet the sun

everyone up this early too

exhausted to make a fuss

the bags under your eyes protest

as you bask in the morning light

a slight smile despite the time

i guess

you can’t help but

have a good morning.
