Lie to Me

“Ok. Lie to me, again.”

“Uh . . . I love you!”

She jumped up out of my arms, and punched me in the shoulder, hard. “You suck at this!”

“Sorry, it was all I could think of to say.”

She grabbed my hand and pulled me up to my feet, facing her. “Wait! So, you love me . . . is a LIE?”

"Of couse not." I stepped in closer, and she made a show of trying to push my arms away, but it was a very feeble attempt.

As my arms slid around her waist, she she reached up and took my face in her hands. “You’re lucky you are so damn cute.”

I saw the twinkle in her eyes. “Hey . . . we’re not playing the game now, are we?” I tried to pout, but she squeezed my cheeks and pulled my face down to hers. The taste of her lip balm, added to the softness of her lips, the scent of her toothpaste, and the merest hint of her tongue grazing my lips was enough to drive me nuts.

She knew it too.

I started to sink into her kiss, and without any warning, she placed her hands against my chest and pushed. I wasn’t ready for it and stumbled back a step, landing my butt back on the tree trunk.

“I suppose you’ll have to catch me and find out.” She grinned in the sly-as-a-fox way she has, turned and was suddenly off at a full run across the park.

I couldn’t hold back my grin as I took off. It was time to catch my love, and show her just how true my feelings were.
