The Stepping Stone

I've never been one

To leave my comfort zone.

I hid in my fear,

Hindered by its grasp.

To some,

Fear is a motivator.

They want to go past

What their mind tells them.

They want to do it to show themselves

That they can do anything.

But to me,

Fear was a jail cell,

Trapping me in my mind,

Telling me

Over and over and over again

That I will get hurt,

That I won't be happy,

If I follow through.

But recently,

I've learned.

Fear can be a stepping stone,

Something that pushes me

To do things I want to do,

To take risks and understand

That I can't be perfect,

But that I can attempt to do

Things that I truly love.

That even if things don't work out,

I tried

And I tried my best.

And to me,

That's all that should matter.

Fear shouldn't be a jail cell,

But like a staircase in front of me,

Pushing me to make

One tiny push forward,

No matter how afraid I may be.
