Where are the instructions?

I thought we were all supposed to have it,

That it would come in the box or something.

A little voice that teaches you love,

But I think that I got nothing.

I've searched and searched all over the place,

For maybe I just misplaced it.

Maybe I dropped it amidst the trauma,

Or mistakenly erased it.

For all my searching and all my wishing,

I've come to this sad opinion.

Perhaps it is there, inside all along,

Forever switched to the off position.
