If I'd known...

You were wet cement

If I'd known

That you were just wet cement

Poured on my feet,

I would have ran away

before you had a chance to dry

But I thought it was different

You seemed like my forever,

My other half. The one who would never desert me

We would fly together, and soar above the clouds

Cement sticks, it doesn't want to budge once it hardens

You started to dry

I realized I was stuck

Couldn't move, dance, run,

only trapped in your dry, hard, clutches

telling me I could never escape

your love, your thoughts, your life

We would never fly

As I thought we would.

And so I took a pickaxe

Chipped you away, until I was free

If only I had known.

The painful

heartbreaking process

Filled with anger,

tears, dull aches,

and eventual healing, as I bandaged my feet,

And finally flew
