Write a poem about what you truly miss. It could be a person, a place, a time. It could be something you feel nostalgic about.

Left With Nothing

One day you’re here

The next you’re gone

The unexpectedness

Is what hurts the most

I thought I would

Hold on to you

For a long time

It wasn’t meant to be

You were meant to be free

You belong to the world now

Your soul is free

There are no longer

Any restraints

Holding you back

I know it’s for the best

I know it was getting hard for you

But it’s hard to know

I will no longer have your guidance

Now I’ll just ask myself

Would you be proud?

I’ll never know for sure

I’ll never know if I’m living my life

The way you would want me to

I’m left to live up

To the impossible legacy you left

You helped people you barely knew

You put yourself in danger

To save others

I don’t know if I could ever do that

But I can write for you

I can see myself

In the words

You published

I want to live a life like yours

But I’m not sure I can

I want to be who you always saw in me

But I’m not sure I can

I miss you more than you could ever know

I’ve never seen your grave

I know you’re gone

But I’m not sure I could bare

To see your name

Carved permanently

Into the stone

The pain has eased

Since the beginning

But I don’t think it will ever

Go away entirely

I’ve found

Missing you

Is worse than anything else

Because there is no way

I could ever get you back
