Empty Spot

I sit at the place,

We had our first date.

A table secluded,

In a small park.

Only this time I am alone.

There is a small candle,

Its flame flickers in the breeze,

Trying not to go out.

A leaf drifts down,

Landing in front of me.

I turn my eyes up,

To the tree.

By the looks of it,

It has gone through a lot.

The branches are twisted,

It looms high about me.

The tree reminds me of a place,

A place inside of me,

A place that is now hollow.

I try to cover my pain,

Wear a mask,

So nobody,

Sees the truth,

The painful truth.

Maybe someday someone will understand.
