Lost Freedom (audio version)

Lost Freedom is the first poem I ever wrote. I was in 10th grade and my English teacher made the class write a poem about freedom. It was while writing this poem that I realized that I liked writing poetry. So easy on the criticism.

The Lost Freedom

I wake up to the smell of blood and urine

Up above me my hands are tied

I look around wondering where am I?

I see others like me up against the wall.

Faces sad with all hopes destroyed

Bruised, battered, and beaten is what I see

The room is as cold as winter to me

Suddenly I realized I'm on a ship

Headed where I do not know

For my destination is a mystery

All I can think of is my family

Brothers,Sisters I shall never see

And as the ship travels further

Downhill goes my dreams

And everything that matters to me

Now finally I understand why they are sad

For we are trapped like rats in a cage

The only thing standing between the life I knew

And the one I shall have

Is the ocean and these uncharitable strangers

Before I was free, but now I'm a captive in distress

The wind blows

taunting me with what I have left

I decided there was only one way

To regain the freedom that I had lost

And that was to end it.
