Sun behind the old

oak. A beak against the bark;

below it, a squeak.

The myth of the primitive heart:

love took refuge in the heart's ruins.

In the midst of two pulses synchronizing,

one slowed to a stop.

Gasping Skeleton

Last night fossilized

into the driveway, I walk

still in your breath.

Moonlight Voice

The night fell into me in pieces.

First, the stars:

filling in the freckles on my cheeks.

Then the full moon:

its halves splitting to rest beneath my eyes.

Everywhere I walked the trees swayed toward me.

The wind was the voice I used to speak of you with.

I looked down into the pale waters,

the moon rising in my chest,

and heard a dulcet voice in my eyes say,

"This is you now, reborn."

Listen for the last
