I tell myself its not long now

until I reach the top

it will be worth the trek

the shortness of breathe

too see the view from up there

I dream of what its going to feel like

close my eyes and feel the breeze

to take of my bag

let go of the weight on my back

and breathe

The last few steps are bittersweet

the boundary between pain and ecstasy

sweet relief

as I reach the summit finally

this is where I am supposed to be

Those moments as I take in the view

are the ones I've chased my entire life

the hard work has finally paid off

dark times drift away

replaced with pride and joy

But then the moment passes

I get bored of the view

I search for another summit

feeling restless and jaded

and then i look up and see it  

A promise of happiness

another height to reach

I lift my bag on to my back

count to three

and climb

I found a place

Beyond the grey

Where there is light

And children play

Where birds fly high

Past trees that sway

I saw the future

As bright as day

Don’t lose hope

For I will pray

You spread your wings

And fly away

Hold my hand

I’ll lead the way

To a world of love

Beyond the grey

There is beauty in all I see

the flap of wings and a bird flies free

so I will stay faithful to thee

the one who gifted me with life

there is strength where there is pain

for when I suffer I fight again

your tests are not received in vain

I know I am blessed with life

And when I close my eyes to dream

there before me I see a stream

your brilliance makes the river gleam

with love you created life

I found my self in the eye of the storm 

when above me soared a bird

Deafened by the tempest's roar

sweet melodies I heard

she flapped her wings and braved the wind

towards the clouds she flew

and once her last feather's disappeared

beside me an iris grew

I found my self in the eye of the storm

when the iris was in bloom

her yellow eyes offered me light

in the chaos and the gloom

She stood erect and gazed above

her petals a calming deep blue

with one last stretch she touched the sky

and smiled at the view

Whisper your hatred into my ear

Not too loud or they might hear

Show me darkness, show me fear

Your words will not break me

Beat me until I slip away

“this is your fault” I hear you say

He sees my pain, to him I pray

Your hands will not break me

Ignore the horrors that you see

Blames others for what you did to me

my suffering is going to set me free

Your ignorance will not break me

There is fear in your eyes

And confusion in your lies

I see beyond your disguise

Raised mountains of past pain

ruin the silk smoothe plane

and beneath the river red flows

a vicious fire wihin grows.

Don’t feel guilt for your wrong doing

I’ve locked the past away

It won’t cause havoc on my watch

I’ll take up arms everyday

Shame will not defeat it

Yes, you had your part to play

But our home is now in ruin

I’m off to the frontline, you stay

Stranded on no man’s land

I dragged you to safety that day

Now you’re going to desert me

Is that the price I have to pay?

The battle scars on display

You scream all is fair in love and war

But your words just ricochet

when I was a child I was yellow,

like a sunflower, a beautiful sunflower

but one day the boy I liked was with another girl

I turned green

at school it was a whole lot of red

like a murder scene

red every time I made a fool of myself

or argued with my friends

then it was summer break

and all I remember is being blue

like the soft blue skies above me

I know why blue is my favourite colour now

But you don't realise what a miracle life is 

until all that's left on your palette is grey

You used up all the other beautiful colours 

trying to paint a picture of how life should be

rocks are grey

that makes sense to me now

I've hit rock bottom 

I pity the people who tried

and failed to bring me down

as I rise to touch the stars

they stay chained to the ground

They wage war against the innocent

slaughter them with words

yet they are not at peace with themselves

so morals become more blurred

Blinded by their hate

but I pray one day they'll see

my kindness was not my weakness

it took strength to stay true to me

Oh bird that flies on this summer night

you see these people walk by

one by one they are separated

their souls begin to die

These humans have watches but have no time

they are part of a race with no finish line

Oh fox your cunning eyes can see

they are sad and so afraid

but they dance the dance of life again

a new world they have made

These humans smile, laugh and love

the world is below, so they gaze above
