Skittles

When Joe was five he scraped his knee,

He'd done it as he fell from the climbing tree

He cried to his mommy, and she said he'd be fine

It was his daddy that made him better in time

His daddy sat beside him and handed him the red packet of colourful sweets.

He told Joe that the green ones, would stain all his teeth.

Life is full of colours. He said to his son.

Dont let anything make you only see one.

When Joe was eighteen he had his heart broke.

Constantly visiting their initials carved into the old oak.

He moaned to his friends and they called him a dud

It was his father that stepped up, with a good manly hug

He sat beside him and handed him the red packet of colourful sweets.

He told Joe that the green ones, would stain all his teeth.

Life is full of colours. He said to his son.

Dont let anything make you only see one.

When Joe was 29, he got fired from his current job.

It was the same day his apartment got robbed

His dad was by him, helped him get back on his feet

And there he was, with that same old treat.

He sat beside him and handed him the red packet of colourful sweets.

He told Joe that the green ones, would stain all his teeth.

Life is full of colours. He said to his son.

Dont let anything make you only see one.

Joe fell ill at forty-two, the cancer too big to cure

He lay in the hospital bed, as his dad walked through the door

The pain was evident on his papas face

And he gently pulled him in, for a loving embrace.

Joe looked at his dad and handed him the packet coloured red,

He watched his dad smile, and slowly shake his head.

Life is full of colours, to dad said son.

Dont let anything make you only see one.

For lack of a better word

Every word I say isn't right,

Every word I write is a lie.

But it's the best way I could find,

To share what's in my heart and on my mind.

You

In the thick of this dark jungle,

Where all I used to know became confused

A tiny speck of light shone through to me.

When my honesty was dying

And all I hoped was true seemed so unreal

An eye that sparkled somehow helped me see.

When my honesty was dying

And all I once lived for became abused,

A hand held mine and pulled me from the floor.

In the darkness of this desert

I thirst for truth to keep my heart aflame.

You gave me strength to take the cup once more.

In the darkness of this lying

Where daggers drawn will stab you in the back,

Your honesty shone out to pull me through.

In the thick of this dark jungle

I knelt and prayed they would not choke my pride.

My prayers were answered, now I know it’s true –

The truth I always held is here in you.

Beautiful Disaster

Amidst my darkest storm,  you were a radiant beam of light that shone brightly against my cold cascading tears, illuminating the darkness with brilliant colours, creating beauty within the disaster that is me.

Tanka On The Most Beautiful Thing Possible

Pokemon, except

They're all hermaphroditic,

And have to be birthed

By hand, the same as cattle.

Dragged limp, wet, into the world.

Sunny Dreams

Reveling in the sunlight

Feeling it to the core of my being

In every pore of my body

If this were a dream, now would be the moment where I wake up

Dear Lover,

Dear lover, do not be perfect.

Show me that your persistent phonecalls

After my 2 a.m. shifts arise from distrust,

Or insomnia, but surely not concern.

Spill your sins out of that guarded arsenal

If there is one; please let there be one.

Let me gaze surreptitiously at

The crinkled sheets from last night

When I wasn't in your - our - bed.

And dare not bring out the words I need

To hear, in your satin laced whispers.

For once my dearest,

Make me unlove tiny bits of you,

Before my stubborn young heart

Falls head over heels for yours.

Before it refuses irrevocably,

To settle for a love

Any less than yours,

If you should go.

In Twilight

Will this chair be here tomorrow

And what about this crib

Will my life be filled with sorrow

At everything I did

If I call your name again

Will you remember me

Will I know the where and where

Of everything you’ll be

I can see you sleep in twilight

I can hear you weep in twilight

I can feel your dreams in twilight

I know you – I know you in twilight

As the years go sliding by

I cannot help but feel

I’ve wasted all my yesterdays

With words that will not heal

If I try to hold you closer

Will you just pull away

I can’t stop you from growing older

I hope you find your way

I can see you sleep in twilight

I can hear you weep in twilight

I can feel your dreams in twilight

I know you – I know you in twilight

Once upon a time I knew you

When you were a child

Now I see a light shining through

As you start to run wild

I hope one day you come back to me

Once you’ve reached the sky

I’ll be right here waiting to hear

All the reasons why

I can see you sleep in twilight

I can hear you weep in twilight

I can feel your dreams in twilight

I know you – I know you in twilight

Shy

Come with me, to blues, to the corners, up the walls, where its quiet, and in the greys, in the neutrals, that may split your mind wide open. But there's a treasure there, rest assured. That cannot be got any other way. You will know yourself, in no time, til the end.
