Untitled

The weird feeling you get when you realize

You are free.

Truly free.

From the law, from the order,

At last you can do everything you want.

Everything and anything.

This is true freedom,

True bliss,

But after a while, it’s boring.

And it all falls apart

We’re (Not) Free

Supposedly, we're all free

Blessed with the trait of will,

The option to make our own choices

But are we really?

At some point,

All of us are trapped

Caged in by circumstances we can't control

Sorrows we can never escape from

Events spiraling into chaos

Nothing we can do about them

Feeling weak, powerless

Like things will never change

As if the darkness will never dissipate

Is that really freedom?

I’d like to hold our thoughts

Is it wrong...

to want this Independence

and long to be possessed?

to be Part

of a World-in-progress to

halve the Self ’n seal it up

tight without

sliver of doubt in between

clouding things that scream

as obscene

like poverty of can do spirit

and lack of naked gratitude

for insight

into please and to welcome

in tangible good nights

across the darkness

of our countrysides strangely

familiar, dependent, yet free

Anarchy

A state of disorder

The lack of authority.

Anarchy.

Madness.

They call it freedom

But it's a terror.

That lack of control.

The destruction of our world.

Rules exist

We think them a prison.

And perhaps they are.

But not ours.

They keep the monsters at bay.

A world of chaos

Collapses on itself

Armageddon.

We cannot survive

In a world so truly free.

Unsupervised

Second grade was free and unruly.

Accustomed to my teacher’s absense

For a mysterious illness or suspicious injury,

We ran amuck and terrorized subs.

Peyton got six concussions that year

But that wasn’t why he couldn’t read.

Sub after sub would quit on our class

Before recess when they entered the eye

Before Ms. Burkhart’s hurricane finished them.

Some kids would refuse to do anything,

While others wouldn’t even come to class.

I remember the power outage

After a kid’s tantrum destroyed the electrical box.

The sub got locked out of the room,

And gave up on us, and cried.

Freedom

You shoved me off a boat with a smile.

I laughed and dragged you in with me.

Somebody was frowning at us,

and the counselor was telling us to behave.

We didn’t care.

I had an abandoned beer can kozy

tucked into my pocket

and you were holding the wrapper

of a storebought ham sandwich

you had seen floating.

The sun was warm,

the water was cool;

we closed our eyes

and just floated,

free.

Along the Way

Along the Way I met a man

With winsome eyes and merry song

Who, offering a friendly hand,

Said, “walk with me, the road is long”.

My heart fast won, I followed him

And gladly took a warming flask.

The evening light was growing dim

And for his name I did not ask.

Encountering a forest dark,

He turned and led me through the trees.

Commandments mother bade me mark

I broke to feel that I was free.

Young traveller, now passing through,

Observe my ghostly servitude.

My bloody end I pray you’ll see

And think not wisdom tyranny.

Freedom in Nude

I was afraid of myself

of my body

of expressing myself

and my worth.

I was afraid of my potential

of my ideals

of the essentials

and my care.

But I wanted to break free

needed it

craved it

i wanted to prove myself to others

so for my project i decided

to go nude

nude leotard

i put paint on my body and my leotard

to paint myself

into a beautiful canvas

i could be proud of.

Did it work?

A little.

I'm still here today.

But I know that I can show myself to the world

alive

breathing

Anarchy for All

The men in the high towers from the birth of states,

Proclaim that anarchy is lawlessness and chaos!

That they are needed so that men,

Do not rip each other in blood and madness.

Yet when they have power it is anything but law and order for all people,

There is only the might of the state and its iron first that delivers

The will of moneyed men.

To end with tyrants and their lackeys,

Who rule by might and coin.

Rise up common man,

Off with your weighty chains.

For we are the many and they are the few.

False Authority

I chuckle in disbelief

How have we lost track of what we are?

Made-up titles

Made-up life

pointless laws

and endless fights.

Where do you place yourself inside this domain?

you put your head up your ass

Tell me from what to abstain

Do you have any reason?

Any logic?

Any point?

I didn’t think so

So I’m smoking a joint.
