A Nostalgic Poem (in metaphor or simile)
Watching children run through sprinklers, I was struck by nostalgia. Write a poem about your childhood or something sweetly nostalgic, but use a metaphor or simile that particularly relates to it. For example, the children I was watching said the water looked like "silver dolphins" (I'll add my example poem). No more than 60 words. Nostalgia can be sweet, but often short.

Imprints in the Imagination

...the impressions of footprints walking away...

but these are so very beautiful aren't they...?

and we're truly grateful to see as many everyday,

even if half-the-world on their shoulders does verily weigh

what relief to know, and again even more so to convey

our appreciation for the thoughts aloft that sway...

....always tiptoeing back to us in Poetry's ephemeral way

Silver Dolphins...

My childhood too was like silver dolphins

A lazy day dancing in fountains

running through portals

to other worlds...

My own world in which I was lost so often

lost in halls of different identities

--all me.

A princess,

a warrior,

an explorer,

a pirate,

but only a child

running through portals

like silver dolphins...

The Flower Children

Fingertips of sunlight touch the buds

To wake them from their slumber.

They rise from their patches of soil,

Stretching their green limbs up towards the sky

As if they're acceping a hug from the morning light.

Invigorated, they prance over to the garden

Where they rejoice in the company of their friends,

Dancing in a beautiful display of colors.
