The greatest sacrifice

In my own humble opinion

Is time

Time is something that can be given

But never taken back

Once its gone

Its gone for good

There's no rewind

No pause

No stop

There's only play

And so

Time is the most precious gift

That anyone can give

Yet its rarely ever given free

Because we never think we have enough

Not for ourselves

And for others as well

Time is but

A misconstrued concept

Turned into a product

Always highly in demand

But remember...

There's always someone out there

Who needs your time more than you

"Then God said, 'Take your son to the land of Moriah and kill your son there as a sacrifice for me. This must be Isaac, your only son, the one you love. Use him as a burnt offering on one of the mountains there.'"

If your God asked you to burn your own, would you?  To my mind, this is the greatest sacrifice to date.

Many people are willing to die for others - mothers for their children, soldiers for their countries. But the ultimate sacrifice, in my opinion, is not dying for something, but rather living for it. It takes true courage to stand your ground and fight for what you believe in. You have to be committed, day in and day out, to face obstacles, stand your ground, and retreat and regroup when necessary. You have to sacrifice your personal desires to instead inspire others and lead them toward your shared goal. But because of your sacrifice, others will have a better future.

She looks at me, and I know. 

With her cracked hands and crumbling smile, I know what she has lost for me, what she had given up. She speaks to me with softened words and whispering encouragements, edging me on towards success. Her heart has given into the loss of hope for herself, for childish dreams and high school longings. In the shape of triangle sandwiches and towering birthday cakes, she lets me onto her greatest weakness: me. 

She looks at me, and I know that her grit was lost within the storms of my childhood.

It was not easy saying goodbye, but it was the right thing to do.

She was 20 years younger and I had no right...engaging in this...

this tryst, if you will.  Should have known better than to let her get to me.

But it was love that made me do this ... and I did care for her.  She was fun and beautiful 

and...my God, I just loved the way I felt around her.

She should be with someone her own age, to start a family...to live a life

and grow old with someone, not take care of someone old...

Subjectively or Objectively?

A subjective answer might be any entry in response to this challenge.

An objective answer is essentially impossible to find. (Unless of course you have knowledge of all objective truths. In which case I would like to ask you a question or two...)

It's not your life.

It's yourself.

Your will, your words.

Because that's what hurts the most.

When you live but you hate who you are forced to be.

Going through chronic illness and having the idea of who I would be ripped from my fingers, as they could no longer hold onto those physical dreams any longer, is the hardest thing I've faced. I wanted to die. Living a partial life is hard. I wrote letters, made videos, and decided how. But all those years of never having friends, and then all of a sudden I did. I never wanted to hurt them that way. But I sacrificed what I wanted for the people I love.

I lived.
