Challenge Ended
Okay Prosers, this challenge is very close to my heart. I was talking to one of my dear friends the other day who is blind. She never complains about it and is always laughing and a ray of sunshine but on this day she confessed that she was feeling down. "It's just darkness all the time," she said. Said it twice. Her words cut me to the core. I wanted to say something, anything by way of empathy, but mostly I wanted to paint her sight back somehow. Calling all painters, poets, and word magician

March Forth into Your Light

Naked is the song of life,

10,000 suns have stroked your skin,

You stand transfixed

before the dawn of life,

bonded together in darkness

but you are no longer unseeing.

Lend me your wisdom

and give me your laughter

as canary light shimmers

in your vivid dreams.

Warm sensations post words

along your moonlit pages -

You do not need vision

to warble enchantment

of your heartbeat,

as you leave whispers

on my skin and

pressed lips on my soul.

Imagined white pinholes

of light appear before you

as negativity marches away

from your parade of shadows.

Breathe deeply the chill of air,

behind a veil hide nothing

but create your own world.

Fill your fingertips with

resplendent colors and

smooth the rough patches.

Feel the soft sands on

your wandering toes,

bridge your heart fully

with your magnificent mind.

Mysteries of love will

expose you to rapture.

Ocean waves of new beginnings

flow in to erase your darkness.

Hoist your sails and steer

your course to freedom

and gentle purity

as you smell the scent

of all life has to offer.

Break free from your

restrictive chains,

envision all life

has to offer –

march forth

into your own light.

(a poem for the visually impaired who see more than we do)

The Blind Seer

I am blind

Darkness my companion

All the time

I may not see

The azure blue

Of sky and sea

But I smell green

In rain soaked grass

Washed summer clean

I may not view

The velvet rose's

Scarlet hue

But I can taste

The purple storm

Feel North blow on my face

I cannot gaze

Into your amber eyes

Through this opaque haze

But I can hear

Your heartbeat

Singing in my ear

Unhindered by temporal sight,

My heart perceives immortal

Beyond this fog of night

The melodies I hear

Paint views I alone can see

Those depths inside of you

Because blind, I am a Seer

Written in honor of the blind and “disabled” who've taught me to see and feel.

Splendid colours

The hum of life's electric spark

The rough touch of the living bark

The scent of blossoms in the park

Will with splendid colours mark

The empty hollows of the dark

Let There Be Light!

I had been to places

Where darkness reigned

But only for a time

Til light exploded

And all the dark dispelled

I'd sojourned in a sun-less universe

Broken, Beleagured, Blind

I waged my war against demons dark

The joy muggers

The veil upon life's glorious art

I have also known the joy of angels

Dispensing peace and calm

To my sightless being

In havens darkness dare not be

I have known brilliance untold

I have known the dark of the moon

How it pales in contrast

To the radiance

Of the stars of my fashion

Though blind, my world so bright

I will not be held captive

By the tentacles of gloom

I break free into the light within

Truly, my senses have flown

Vivid fancy sets me free.

To See

The color comes in unexpected places,

The light that is heat against closed faces,

A drifting touch that brings your smile,

Trust me when I say that you are not exiled,

Because the blackness that surrounds cannot compare

To each scent and sound whirling with flair,

I would hope that my voice, that rushes to thee,

Paints these emotions in streaks of glee,

Itʼs because of this I think, as your hand holds mine,

Despite the mist and pain of your darkness,

our

souls

intertwine

And a lonely existence, it may seem,

But dammit, I know that to see is to dream,

And that this love for you will never subside,

Just because you see with your heart, and not with your eyes.

Everlasting

It's just darkness all the time,

It's just darkness all the time,

Find a reason or a rhyme,

But no, it's darkness all the time,

Do you remember red?

it coats my nails,

feeling smooth,

but texture pales,

with gaudy color,

covered scales.

It must be strange to see no one but to have everyone see you.

It's just darkness all the time,

It's just darkness all the time,

Find a reason or a rhyme,

But no, it's darkness all the time,

Do you remember light?

it comes with day,

scares the goons,

and thugs away,

but at the end,

heat will stay,

How often do you forget that others inhabit the space around you?

It's just darkness all the time,

It's just darkness all the time,

Find a reason or a rhyme,

But no, it's darkness all the time,

Do you remember line?

it defines the truth,

complex when old,

simple in youth,

and still it seems,

to be uncouth,

It's not fair.

But know that though the dark remains,

Feeling, heat, and truth maintains.

Note from the author: I hope this helps

Feel Me

Color is a waste of an ability;

We humans can't even agree

On blue and black or white and gold

Is it aquamarine, or blueish-green?

Sight, is a waste.

So many creatures use the cool stuff.

Sonar, eco-location, vibrations.

Maybe what we have really isn't good enough.

Why can't you just feel me?

Don't you love the tension in the air

As two lovers approach; their pulse is heard.

Tingles, chills, all down your spine so bare.

Feel me seeing red,

hear me talking a blue streak.

My anger is boiling hot, can you feel it?

Feel the clench of my teeth as I speak.

All of the best feelings you can't even see.

They are metaphysical, so just hold on to me.

Love is best made in the dark anyways.

When the senses, enhanced, set us free.

Exposure and color

will come in tones

by the sensible fingertip

and desire beneath

the sound of the beach

is the same as it looks

the smell of thin air

and the taste of cherries.

Brightness and contrast,

an everlasting cycle of sight,

like embossed sand grain

filtering between the toes.

Day and night,

warm and light,

and the depth of the skies

will come around in sound.

When I'm alone with trees

I close my eyes and hear them whisper.

When I'm alone with flowers

I close my eyes and hear them dancing.

Everytime sadness comes desaturated,

the greyscales build their symphonies

just to hear the reveries and remedies

of a world spinning round,

it's complicated.

ROYGBIV

Red red roses with velvet petals brought to a lover with fiery burning passion

Orange hues are slightly less fiery... the heat is on its way out and crisp leaves crunch under foot

Yellow is so soft, like warm sunshine or a fuzzy chickadee against your cheek

Green is the scent of cut grass

Blue, the scent of ocean, the taste of salt

Indigo like a deep chill, cold as ice

Violet, oh violet... how to describe thee. I suppose there's no better way than to breathe in the scent of the lovely purple flowers by that name. Inhale a handful of blueberries and then taste them. That is violet.

To feel and smell and taste colors is the very best way to experience them!

Pulse

Curtain darkness,

engulfed by shadow:

Endlessly searching

without direction -

no north, no south

no eyes, no mouth

Cast out to see

without a pole,

I float the scene

in boats unknown.

Each day, each night

I know not right,

begin to see that I'm the light.
