monday morning

wake me up before you leave,

when I'm sleep drunk and blurry-eyed,

watching you brush your hair in the muted sunlight

that filters between the cracks of closed blinds.

the bedroom is messy and perfect and ours,

and as I fall back asleep

your hands pull the covers around me.

Hurt

He closes the door.

Darkness. A quiet sob.

She rests her head on bruised knees. It’s not her fault she couldn’t stop crying, but least being locked in the cellar is better than being upstairs with him. She sniffs as warm tears begin falling again.

She’s safe for now.

Let Me In

Why did you up and close the door in my face? Are you really that closed-minded to close me off like this without at least hearing my closing arguement of why I want to be close to you? There was a time we were close and I want that again.

drifting & clinging

she presses her hand against the wall.

it's as thin as paper, nearly see-through, but it might as well stretch into the end of existence.

she knows what's behind it. she knows what she's missing.

but the whispers in her hollow head tell her that she can never have it.

Out

You knock and knock and knock on the door that I shut on you

Every bang a crack in my exterior

In the heart that I am trying to harden against you

Let me build my wall

Let me shut the door

I want you out

I need you out

close

eyes shut,

your embrace is

a safety net i didn’t know existed

your figure encased in a baggy sweater

we fit

just right

comfort

in a person;

your arms hold

even the sharpest parts of me

alas

my eyes open

the image goes stale

(did i just fall in love?)

“Close”

"Close."

Close are your hands which protect me

from accusing fingers and serrated words.

Closer still was your heart to mine when you hugged me,

when I told you about everything that I had been going through alone.

Close are your tears,

rolling down your face, full of compassion.

"Close."

She never told me to leave, I just knew when I was no longer wanted.

I knew when she stopped looking at me with joy on her face.

When her hand felt different in mine.

There was just something missing.

We're no longer as close.

The door is now closed.

That was close

Driving up an icy mountain road. My car loses traction. Slipping backwards towards the bend in the road. Nothing between me and the icy abyss below. Suddenly, my tires grab onto a dry patch in the road. Stopping mere meters before the drop. "That was close," I said to myself.

Mars and the Stars

I gave you the moon, but you wanted the stars.

I gave you Pluto, but you wanted a trip to mars.

Said you'd give me anything, I only asked for you to care,

I wanted to hold you close, instead I held a teddy bear.

I had to let go.
