Time, Imagine Me Elusive

She said she was flirting with time

As she stripped off her clothes and dove into dark water

That reflected the night sky

Like she was swimming through the milky way

But I never understood the phrase

I have no love for time

As it ticks away silently

Stealing sacred moments

Without us realizing it

Until it’s too late

I will not flirt with time

Will not lull it into a false sense of security

With gentle caresses and whispers in the ear

Just to cut it loose in the end

Because I treat others as I’d like to be treated

And I don’t want to be left dangling on a string

So I look time in the face and say

I’ll outrun you or die trying

I’ll claw my way through

As if it could end any other way

Or never end at all

But I’d rather go out battered and bruised

Having felt the adrenaline and the pain

Then to lie by your side

And welcome you with open arms

Without any scars to show for it

She said she was flirting with time

But I’d divorced myself from the concept

Long ago

Flirting with time

She walks down the corner and waits by the clock

He steps from the minute hand, not sans tik tock

They bow to each other; he holds out his hand

She smiles and takes it, but their love’s still banned

They run round the corner and in through an arc

With hands on each other they dance through the dark

Her laughter is lightning that wakes up his heart

They dance round in circles; they’ve mastered the art

The hour is midnight, five hours til dawn

By then they’d stop dancing and he would be gone

she’s flirting with Time

...flirting with Time

She walks down the corner and waits by the clock

He steps out and greets her; they run down the block

They waltz through the hours in pulsating beat

The minutes are passing, no second repeats

Their eyes on each other, no time for a break

Her arms round his neck; no emotion opaque

Her head’s on his shoulder, her eyes on his lips

She leans back and twirls; they end in a dip

The minutes are slower when he brings her in

Their noses are touching; they’re skin against skin

she’s flirting with Time

...flirting with Time

Her scripts are not written; no, Time will not tell

the things that will happen when he says farewell

She’ll dance in the echos, count seconds til night

And Time will not fail her; he stays til it’s light

Her heart never broken; it is her first Time

but lovers are lovers and she’s chosen Time

she’s flirting with Time

... flirting with Time

Ummm I had the song “Snowman” by Sia stuck in my head while writing this, so if you are having a hard time reading this, read this using the rhythm of her chorus lines:

“Let’s go below zero and hide from the sun

I love you forever where we’ll have some fun

Yes, let’s hit the North Pole and live happily

Please don’t cry no tears now, it’s Christmas, baby

My snowman and me

My snowman and me”

(in my opinion, it sounds better while singing/humming it, but honestly doesn’t everything?)

My Girlfriend

My girlfriend beats dead horses.

She slams her fists into their corpses,

Waiting for the sigh of breath

that never comes from lips of death.

My girlfriend punches corpse's sides.

Even as they rot, she plunges her fists inside,

Slamming knuckles through decaying skin,

Ramming into the bone within.

I don't know why she does it,

I just know I can't condone it.

My girlfriend beats dead horses,

Meanwhile, the only thing I can do

Is beat around the bush

And ignore the root of the problem.

poised and prepared

underneath the water

submerged in choppy waves

swim the sharks

skin like sandpaper

teeth like knives

waiting

and

waiting

and

waiting

for the tips

of the icebergs

to crumble

and disrupt

their silent

world

If someone uses these idioms to describe you, they’re really letting you know...

1) Flirting with time = That you’re forgetting your age and flirting with someone too young for you

2) Beating a dead horse = That you’re never able to finish the job

3) It’s Just us chickens = That you’re nothing to worry about, because even if you wanted, you couldn’t fly the coop

4) You only see the Tip of the iceberg = That you’re too optimistic and superficial (you refuse to delve deeper into an issue)

5) Why don’t you let yourself go Once in a blue moon? = That you’re bipolar, so every month (preferably under a full moon) you should allow yourself to howl and go crazy

Once In A Blue Moon

We stand facing each other in the clearing, nothing around us but the rustle and snap of trees, the fine rain misting on our hair, the sky low with dark clouds.

I can't see anything in the dark, but it's not like the surroundings are invisible. They're too visible. They fill my vision so full, it overflows into heavy nothingness.

So I can't see her, but I can hear her breathing. Hitching in her chest, coughing up her throat. I can feel her breathing through the sound, as if it's my own.

The moon appears from somwhere, some cloud-parting shedding pale light like fog, the clearing sliding into faintest view. She's hugging her damp arms around herself, chest heaving with her breaths. The air smells like the rain.

"Don't leave me," she says, as the moon reflects in her eyes and makes them glow, brilliantly blue. Light that takes my gaze in its arms and locks it tight before I've noticed.

She gasps and chokes out a sound like teeth coming up her throat, and she's doubling over, palms on the mucky ground, splattering her jeans with darkness. Her tank top arches with her back.

I look away. I can't help it.

She leaps forward on sinuous limbs, wrapping her arms around me, enveloping me in the warmth of fur and damp animal scent. I scream when she bites me.

It's not painful, the change, because I black out. It's nothing. And then I'm an animal too, and I love her even more.

But the night has to end, and we discover the horrible truth of it: she's a werewolf; I'm not.

I only got to change once, under that brilliant blue moon.

FLIRTING WITH TIME

I wink at all the decisions I have made. Time waits for no one they say. I gaze at an open window. Seasons have changed but not my love and admiration for you. The ticks and the tocks of your broken hands as it caresses’ my soul to rest.

Soft metaphors slips from my lips just seconds before you unwind me. Altered times of whimsical bliss and within minutes my body starts to quivers for more. My heart stops. I know it’s about that time when I kiss your face goodnight.

Metaphor Time

1) “Flirting with time”:

Not using one’s time wisely while your youth, strengths, and looks fade. While we are still young, using our time on the wrong pursuits.

“Time waits for no man.”

Popular Tom Petty Song “Flirting with time.”

2) “Beating a dead horse”:

Idiom that means a particular effort is a waste of time will not cause it to do any useful cause.

“You’re just spinning your wheels.”

3) “Just us chickens”:

Fable involving a chicken thief hiding in the henhouse. Farmer yells out, “Who is that making all that noise in the henhouse?” Sarcastic reply to the farmer, “Just us chickens!”

Otherwise, caught red-handed, “not a good time.”

Louis Jordan Song in the 40s, “Just us chickens.”

4) “Tip of the iceberg”

Cliché: Meaning: only the most visible part of a much bigger whole.

Idiom: Basically means the small part of a much larger situation or problem that remains hidden.

Metaphor, that all we can see is the tip of the iceberg, and that there is a depth beyond depth below it

“Not the whole enchilada.”

“More to time than meets the eye.”

5) “Once in a blue moon”

This poetic phrase refers to something extremely rare in occurrence.

“Timing is everything.” And is, “Almost as rare as chicken lips.”

Flirting with Time

It was never meant to be anything more than a mere passing flirtation. A smile. A friendly wave. The occasional wink and giggle. It was never meant to be anything serious. I didn't want to grow up, to settle down, but the idea intrigued me. So much so that I couldn't just drop it. I couldn't forget it and walk away.

So, I stayed close. Not too close. Close enough to feel the butterflies in the pit of my stomach, but not so close as to turn those butterflies into something more solid and nauseating.

Back and forth I flew, acknowledging, but never accepting. Tasting, but never indulging.

And on it went. Until one day, I looked at myself in the mirror - truly looked. That's when I realized. I may have only flirted with time, but time had been stalking me. And when I wasn't looking, when I was so caught up in myself, time had captured me and took me against my will. And now, I will never be the same.

Dead Horse

I sat there,

watching as he fell to his doom.

Sitting as always,

although I knew it.

I saw it,

before it happened.

And I let it.

I let his fate get sealed.

I beat the dead horse.
