The

The

It is the most used word in English.

No one realizes they're using it.

Till now, anyway.

I'm conscious of it

You're conscious of it

And I haven't even used it since the intro.

Well, there goes that streak. Defying the use of the most common word the.

Dang. I had to use it twice just for explanation.

Imaging trying to use word the throughout any of sentences you decide you want to write.

Don't worry, this word is so common your awareness will dim of its use by the end of the hour. But maybe the end of the hour will stay on your mind...

Writing that I was so busy coming up with a time limit I forgot I was talking about the topic the.

This is, perhaps, the most underappreciated word in the English language.

Then again, there's methinks, which is in the Merriam-Webster Dictionary. Like gullible. I assure you, that's no trick.

But I must admit, I was going to put the the word count at the bottom for any readers, but I figure someone out there already kept track. Please, do let me know. I haven't counted as I am relying on your response. It'll be the response of the ages, methinks.

what if

what-ifs?

“What if..

"What if...

"what if...

I play the What If? game all the time.

But it's rigged, is the thing.

Impossible to win.

Asking What I? can only lead to Maybe Things Could Have Been Different, via Was It My Fault?”

But...

I hear “but” and know

to forget all that’s been said

all meaningless drivel to soften me up

’Fore the dagger strikes me dead.

Integrity

Integrity

I believe for me the word integrity encapsulates the one thing that is truly our own to honour or abuse.

Our integrity.

No one can take away your integrity. It can't be stolen from you; only you can give it away, sell it, discard it,

or continue to live your life immersed in the peace and freedom that is its gift to those who stay true.

Its not about right and wrong but about standing by your truth and allowing others to stand by theirs.

And its not easy in a world that is programmed to take the path of least resistance.

But in the end

it is all you have that is yours to own.

It is your core, it is you.

To deny it is to deny yourself and hide behind someone elses truth.

Who are you now?

And so when I die and all earthly matter falls away I will not be left with nothing. I will have who I was, am and always will be;

at peace in my integrity.

Life

Life has meaning to some, while to others there is no meaning. To find your meaning of life can be an amazing thing.

Nobodies

It is the plural form of nobody, or a nobody. It is an oxymoron. A one word oxymoron. Making it special. My precious nobodies.

‘Honestly,’

what a fool I was, thinking

you'd tell me the truth

in the first place.

Chair

A rather ordinary creation, but I salute you every day for your aid.

You, the unmoving fixure in my life, never straying too far.

Through wear your cushion spills coarse cotton and threads fall to the ground.

And yet

When I scream in anguish and sit down heavily

you do not falter under me

When my spirits sink low and I slump lower

you do not let me fall.

for every action there is an equal but opposite reaction

You, frayed thing, are thus my other half.

Waterways

That have slowly trickled

From a stream

Into a brook

Then a river

Slowly over time carving out

A raging rapid

Which then opens it arms to the estuary

Embracing the sea

In an everlasting display of love abound.

Water just meanders through,

Above,

Around,

Beneath,

All it consumes.

It cleanses the mind body and soul.

Water in and of itself is the intrinsic all

Of life

Soothes.

Proves

And

Realising the need for replenishment.

Water

And

Water alone

Fear

Fear, that feeling you get after watching a scary movie at night.

The feeling you have when you have messed up.

Fear.

But what really is fear?

Fear, its felt often by everyone

Young or old fear is felt

Fear

Nothing but a feeling

Is commonly confused with nerves

Fear, the same feeling you get when existed just a different mindset

Fear, changes your mindset.

Fear can't be narrowed into just one thing

Fear

A problem, a gift, a type of pain?

I don't know

What is fear?

A thing, an object

Its said to be a feeling

But from another perspective

Fear is what we feel to guard our minds to prepare them for the worst

We fear what has not yet happened

We fear what has not been said

We fear the unknown

We fear what we don't know so that we can mentally prepare ourselves.

So what is fear?

A feeling, a thing, a burdened, a protection?

Fear: An emotion felt by everyone, a thing we cannot control

A feeling completely controlled by our minds

A feeling that can Alter the way you think

Something that can consumer you if you let it

Fear.
