The Rules of Euchre ~

♧ ♠ ♢ ♥ ♡ ♦ ♤ ♣

--> In the case of ordering up trump, chosen pips gain power for the duration of the round. Each round begins with a left-shift of duty from the previous dealer. A new dealer shuffles and then offers a cut to their opponent, placed to the right them. Partners sit a’cross each other and play toward a collective score of 10; no table-talk is permitted. Once the opponent to the right has either accepted or declined their right to cut the deck, the new dealer distributes even five-card hands in two turns -- the preferred card-dispersment pattern begins to the left of the dealer: 3-2-3-2 / 2-3-2-3.

Typical games are played using a 24-card deck, including: A, K, Q, J, 10, and 9 of each each suit (♠, ♥, ♦, and ♣). Each card’s power is fixed (Ace being the most powerful in each suit, 9 being the least powerful) except for in the case of the trump suit; the Jacks of the same color are promoted to the top power every round. For example...

--> In Diana, we play ‘Stick-the-Dealer’

So one way or another, at some point in the game, each dealer will ask themselves:

“Will I pass or pick it up?”

In this example, the new dealer (me, your humble narrator) picked up the King-♠.

This, in turn, makes me quite well prepared for the round ahead --

Jack-♠ Ace-♠ King-♠ 10-♠ Queen-♥

Lead to the Left ~

--> C O N T I N U E D

Having opened the game as dealer, and having picked up the King of Spades by my own fruition, my partner and I assume trump-advantage in-pursuit of the first trick.

J♠ A♠ K♠ 10♠ Q♥

The first bid is led by the opponent left of the dealer. Regardless of what’s trump, players must follow the suit that’s led each bid if they are able to follow-suit.

[ E X A M P L E ]

Order of Play ~

- Dealer shuffles the deck

- Dealer offers a cut to the right

- Dealer distributes even hands of five in two turns (3-2-3-2-2-3-2-3)

- First bid is led to the left of the dealer

- Play moves clockwise

II. - Teammate

I. - Comp. #1 + Comp #2 - III.

< J♠ A♠ K♠ 10♠ Q♥ >

Variant Rules You Should Know ~

ACE NO FACE

-----

If a player's hand holds any number

of Aces while having no Faces,

that player may exhibit

their right to call a misdeal;

said player will drop their Ace(s)

and Faceless on the play surface

and say, "Ace no face."

All hands are then

recollected

and dealt again.
