The Lake

3 January 2017

Time: 25 November 2016

Setting: a still, dark lake.

CHARACTERS

Quinn: brown hair simple hazel eyes.

Kwan: dirty blonde hair light blue eyes and tanned skin.

Sara: Quinn’s older sister.

SCENE ONE

Quinn, Kwan, Sara, and others are playing a game of hide ’n seek around the woods where their families are staying for vacation.

Quinn hides low around the trunk of a tree near the shore of the rocky lake.

Kwan walks up to the tree, looks around before seeing Quinn’s knees.

KWAN

Hey.

QUINN

Aw man, I thought this was a good hiding spot.

Quinn begins to inch out of her hiding spot.

QUINN

Was it my knees that you saw?

KWAN

Yeah. Here-

Kwan gives Quinn his hand and he lifts her from under the tree.

Quinn stands.

QUINN

Okay, we better get back and find the others.

Quinn starts to move away and pulls her hand from Kwan’s.

QUINN

Come on.

Quinn begins to walk away from the tree, her back faces Kwan.

Kwan begins to look around frantically before softly marching toward Quinn.

KWAN

Wait, Quinn.

Quinn turns as Kwan walks up to her and lifts her hand.

Kwan leans in, kissing her and brushing her hair away from her ear.

Sara enters in the distance but does not see the two.

SARA

Kwan! Quinn! Come out, we’re gonna go inside and have dessert now.

Quinn pulls away a few steps back from Kwan and looks widely into his eyes.

QUINN

We’re coming.

Quinn looks away from Kwan. She turns toward the cabin and begins running.

Cycle of Life

Her adventure began and concluded with the identical query. From the day she could speak she questioned her destiny until the day all went dark and she completed her journey. The simply question haunted her mind throughout the years: why me?
