Companion

A hand is holding mine

We sit on a bench in silence

Peacefully still

Our faces bare of makeup

Clothes plain and comfy

I rest my head on her arm

She doesn't yell at me

For wanting attention

For wanting a hug

For wanting compassion

And nothing further

She leans to kiss my forehead

Breathe in her sugarcookie scent

I smile at her, eyes closed

Waiting

I wake up to the scent of lemon

Candle almost gone out

And lavender, blankets scented

I groan, rolling out of bed

Another day, another month

Another year of solitude
