The Prose Universe Part 4
The Day Of The Contest…….
It’s four o’clock in the afternoon. Principal Ruby Pond wasn’t going to let the contest take place during school hours so it had to take place after school. Principal Pond took her job seriously. She wanted the students to be spending as much time as possible learning new things. Don’t get it twisted. Principal Pond was no stick in the mud. She just wants the students of her school to be as educated as possible and Vice Principal Soul Hearts was the same way. They were both kind caring women, but they could be strict on occasion.
The contest was taking place in the auditorium. All the judges and contestants had all arrived. The judges were sitting on stage at the judge’s table. While the contestants sat in the audience seats. Superintendent Samantha Fowler had taken to the stage. She turned on the mic and began to speak. “Welcome Prose High to the tenth annual playwright writing contest. The winner will have their play performed by the school. The first three judges Mr. Dusty Grein, Principal Ruby Pond and Vice Principal Soul Hearts will check the play for grammar errors. The next two judges, Ms. Firdaus and Mr. Syne will check the play for its historical and scientific accuracy. Then the next three judges, Ms. Vyxyn, Mr. Harry Situation, and Ms. Bunny will judge the play for its ability to be performed by the school. And finally, I will judge the play based on its creativity. Each contestant will come up onto the stage and briefly tell everyone what their play is about. Is it a musical? Does it deal with death? Does it deal with poverty or is it a love story? Let’s get started! First up, is Fame Writer.”
Around the time the contest was taking place, Steve Scott was in Mr. AlSalehi’s lab. The science fair was months away, but Steve Scott wanted to get a head start. His science fair project was gonna blow everyone else’s out the water. Everyone had a group they belonged to and was part of. However, no group was more prominent than the writer’s group at Prose High. They were all participating in the contest. His project was gonna finally make science, not literature the most prominent at Prose High. His project was a time travel machine. Steve Scott secretly wished this project was enough to impress Salt and Ink or Salt for short. That girl was down right gorgeous. She made him feel a certain kind of way. Since it was after school hours, Steve knew it was only a matter of time before someone caught him in AlSalehi’s lab. The closest exit out of the school was near the auditorium. Since everyone would be too busy paying attention to the contest, Steve figured he could wheel his project out the door without being seen. Unbeknownst to Steve, he had accidentally pressed the start button. The machine slowly started to warm up. The date set for the year 1514, which was 503 years into the past.
AlSalehi was on his way back to his lab. On his way, he stopped by the auditorium. He went inside and saw that Ms.Vyxyn was sitting next to Harry Situation. He thought he told Harry to stay away from his woman. He made his way to the stage. He knew the only way to get Harry to back off was for him to declare his love for Ms. Vyxyn to everyone. Once he got on stage, he took the mic and began to speak. “Hello, everyone. I just wanted to take this moment to tell Ms. Vyxyn that I, Mr. AlSalehi, am in love with you. I have had a crush on you since we first met. I love that adoring smile, those sexy curves, and those beautiful eyes.” Harry situation had heard enough. He stood out of his chair and angrily screamed “ Ms. Vyxyn is my woman. She is taken!!!” Ms.Vyxyn looked complex and bemused. She liked men fighting over her as much as any other woman, but the truth was she wasn’t with either of them. “I am not taken and I don’t belong to either of you,” said Ms.Vyxyn into her mic. Everyone’s mouth was wide open in shock. “I thought she was screwing Harry”, said Ms. Bunny. “I thought was banging AlSalehi,” said Ms. Firdaus. “I thought she was screwing them both,” said Mr. Dusty Grein and Mr. Syne.
Suddenly, a machine burst into the auditorium. Steve Scott was chasing it down the aisle. The machine was making a high pitched humming sound. “I’ve lost control of it”, said Steve. Seconds later there is a red flash of light that blinds everyone. Then there is a yellow flash of light. Finally, there is a green flash of light. The green flash envelops all the contestants and judges. The auditorium is left completely empty. The once noise filled auditorium is now deadly silent.
After the flash, I find myself in a palace. I also see Ms.Vyxyn, Mr. Dusty Grien, Ms.Firdaus, Tyla, and OnyxCity. “Where are we?”,I ask. “And where is everyone else?”, Tyla asked. “Well we aren’t at Prose High sugar”, said Ms.Vyxyn “No you aren’t at Prose High, but you are in my Palace.”, said a deep voice. We all turn around to see a gray haired man with glasses and a beard. “Who are you?”, OnyxCity asks. “Who am I? I’m Jim Lamb Emperor of the Lambian Empire. “Oh my God! We’ve traveled back in time!", said Ms. Firdaus.
After the green flash, I arrived in an open field. I was surrounded by what looked soldiers. The sky was dark. Campfires were lit all around. With me, were Principal Ruby Pond, Mr.Syne, Nyxnight, Trueblood, and AlSalehi. “Steve what did you do?”, said AlSahedi. “I built a time machine, which must have taken us into the past”, I said. “You did what??!!”, shouted Principal Ruby, Mr.Syne, Nyxnight, and Trueblood. “How far into the past?”, said AlSahedi. “ Who the hell are you people and why are you here?", said a menacing voice. They all turned around and saw a tall bald with a beard. It was none other than General Paul D. Chambers. He and his men had us surrounded “If that is who I think it is, at least 500 years”, I said. “And who do you think I am? the general asked. “General Paul D. Chambers”, I said. “Good. Now answer my question? said the general. “We are from a far away land and friends of the Revolution said Principal Ruby Pond thinking quickly. There was a moment of silence as if the general was thinking whether are not he bought it. Then he looked at their strange clothing. “Glad to hear it”, the general said. The troops let down their swords, which they had pointed at us.
Suddenly, two women on horseback appeared out of the darkness, “General Chambers, General Chambers”, they cried. The general turned around. “Aw, it’s Mnezz and Mtrubenfire”, he said. “General Chambers, General Jumotki is planning a surprise attack.”, said Mnezz. Fauxhero and his men caught us sneaking over here, but Sandflea68 told us to leave her. She was about to fight them when we left. We have no idea whether or not she is dead.”, said Mtrubenfire. “If I know Sandflea68, that woman is still alive. What a woman!”, the general said.
Queen of Spring
The boys are leaving,
And she almost
Seems to care...
On her front porch
In her favorite
Front porch chair
With her snappy girl shoes
On her pretty girl feet
Protruding from the blush
Buttercup framed seat...
She's wearing tight jeans
That are snug around
...Her ankles are bare,
And her skin show
Pulls my peg...
...So I hurdle to attention!...
I'm ready to be groomed
By the nature,
And the elements
That she summons
With her mood...
Queen of Spring!...
Queen of Spring!...
...O, those wild
That you use
To Jazz our sights.
...How I love the
That erupts inside
By a Goddess,
Runs like paint...
...Guides the world in
...She is something
Of a saint...
Queen of Spring...
Lost Freedom (audio version)
Lost Freedom is the first poem I ever wrote. I was in 10th grade and my English teacher made the class write a poem about freedom. It was while writing this poem that I realized that I liked writing poetry. So easy on the criticism.
The Lost Freedom
I wake up to the smell of blood and urine
Up above me my hands are tied
I look around wondering where am I?
I see others like me up against the wall.
Faces sad with all hopes destroyed
Bruised, battered, and beaten is what I see
The room is as cold as winter to me
Suddenly I realized I'm on a ship
Headed where I do not know
For my destination is a mystery
All I can think of is my family
Brothers,Sisters I shall never see
And as the ship travels further
Downhill goes my dreams
And everything that matters to me
Now finally I understand why they are sad
For we are trapped like rats in a cage
The only thing standing between the life I knew
And the one I shall have
Is the ocean and these uncharitable strangers
Before I was free, but now I'm a captive in distress
The wind blows
taunting me with what I have left
I decided there was only one way
To regain the freedom that I had lost
And that was to end it.
The voice that speaks inside ...
Locked inside our brains,
Faith & doubt,
Driving us insane.
Two times two is four;
Two times six is more.
“Don’t do this,
Don’t do that,”
Listen to the roar!
Do you have a dream?
Or do you have a plan?
Catching as catch-can.
Dancing in our heads.
(Fun & fact-ing)
Leaving us for dead.
into the silence
the currents breaking in
that can’t be washed
the pain, though tossed
in still waters, is not lost: it
spreads in the black
absence of you
with the obstinacy
of rock-clinging things
how do I grasp these words
to cut through the gray matter
suspended into the silence
the mass of it rises
up slowly, blearily
if i surface,
i’ll lose my hold
and all these words
will be forced
I gazed across the room at the picture on the small table, below the EKG and heart rate monitor.
It was in a silver frame, and she had been packing it around from house to house for almost 60 years now. We were so young, that umbrella was such a deep red, and Paris was the most romantic city in the world.
We spent that whole summer cycling all over Europe, and that picture—which had cost me forty dollars—was the only thing we brought home besides memories.
And Emily, who born nine months later.
Now, as my better half lay there, frail and shrunken on the hospital bed, I felt a tear course down my old, wrinkled cheek. I took her hand and kissed it. I saw the barest hint of a smile play across her lips, as the jumping line on the little green screen slowed and faded to flat.
I love you my dear. Save me a place.

You folded my name
into an origami of lovers,
a taste of invisible sun
on your tongue,
in tango of love,
sensuality in syllables,
tingling my skin,
my torso -
speaking to my heart,
saturating my center,
releasing crest of want
as I silently read
on your lips.

The Planet of Vim (Prologue: Origins + Part of Chapter 1: Vim
It is said that the world of Vim was born centuries ago. Long before earth was created, long before the first human was born. It is said that the great Alta Goddess was born from the sun and the stars. A beaming gleam of white energy was created and with it, the most powerful and most beautiful being was born. She was known as the Alta Goddess.
For centuries The Alta Goddess spent her days alone. Learning only of her powers and energy and growing stronger each day. Her first creation was Vim. A planet consisting of her energy and made from a mold of other planets in the universe. Vim was unlike any other planet, light years away from any other orbit it stood only with the Alta Goddesses light.
While the Alta Goddess was happy on her planet she began to feel lonely. Spending her time watching the galaxy; it was Earth that caught her attention. This planet unlike the rest had evolved and with it came beings similar to her called humans.
Fascinated by these creatures who were constantly evolving. They loved, procreated, society around them grew and the Alta Goddess upon observing them realized just how lonely she was. Pleading to the stars and the sun the Alta Goddess asked for a gift. She wanted children; beings like her which she could love and care for. Much like human mothers did.
Knowing how lonely she was the stars and the sun granted her wish. Gifting the Alta Goddess eight children by merging her light with eight planets Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. Each planet gifting her with one child. One Vim. These children were not as strong as the Alta Goddess and their light glowed different colors than that of her own. Even so, she taught them about their world, about their creation. She taught them about planet Earth as well.
While the children all learned of this planet, mimicking their way of life. Using their own energy and strength to build their own civilization. Things seemed to fall into place for the Alta Goddess and yet… her children now grown up yearned to explore the planet they had observed for centuries. With a heavy heart the Alta Goddess had no choice but to let them go.
Alone, and feeling heartbroken the Alta Goddess yearned to fill the void left by her children. Wanting to create more children, the Alta Goddess looked for the eight planets she had merged with; but they had all gone silent. Leaving only one more planet in that solar system to turn to. Earth. The only planet in all the Galaxy which contained human life. The planet that had taken her children when it had it’s own.
Using her energy, she merged it with Earth’s own and with it three more children were born. Like the rest of her children they were powerful; yet not as strong as she was. Even so, The Alta Goddess loved her children and taught them all she knew.
Together with her children the Alta Goddess continued to improve Vim making the planet grow and prosper with their energy. And yet, all was incomplete for the Alta Goddess for she missed her other children who now lived on earth. She yearned to be united with them but respected their wishes to live their own lives. Her only comfort was watching over them. She watched some of them fall in love, create a family. While other’s simply integrated themselves into human society… And then... Exposure….
One of her children had been exposed. They’d been careful as it seemed their energy was not compatible with earth, producing fire and destruction if not suppressed. It was accidental, and while trying to show the children how to repress their own powers a human had seen them. Rumors began to spread of these superhuman beings and her children were sentenced to death.
With fear for her children the Alta Goddess descended to earth. Taking her children, and their families; including their human mates. With her strong power the Alta Goddess was able to erase the memories of her children on earth. She brought them all back to Vim and together they continued to build a society.
For the longest of times the Alta Goddess was truly happy. Her children were finally home and life continued to take it’s course. Children, grew up, had more children, who had more children and so on and so forth. But gradually life would take it’s course. First the human mates died. The Alta Goddess watched her children suffer and worried for the half human half vim children her own offsprings had produced.
Using her power, the Alta Goddess attempted to make these half children full Vim. The Alta Goddess believed full Vim children would live on, as had she for many centuries. But sadly she was wrong. One by one each of her children passed. Grief stricken she called forth the sun and the stars who explained it was natural for things to die. Her children were no exception.
“You are the only supreme being that we were able to create who shall never die. You were made to guide these children. Teach them the right way. And they shall love you forever…”
Chapter 1: Trauma
There's a song in my head. A soft melody that runs through my veins. It calls out to me.
I can feel the notes jump and with it my feet begin to move. Fast, slow, I leap! I can feel it in my head. There's a storm that comes with this music. It chases after me. This song makes me want to escape. There's a feeling of fear inside my chest that only keeps growing.
Flashes of the day come back to me. My skin being touched. My person being destroyed and violated. Grunts, sweat, crying, laughter. This place where I dance is dark. I'm afraid to fall off this stage even when no one is watching. My feet keep moving as I spin.
*Swish* *Swish* *Swish*
She taught me how to dance how to move perfectly. She taught me how to move. She taught me how to be the best. There's a light. It's so bright that it almost blinds me and I close my eyes. I can't stop this dance has to be perfect. She's watching me and I can't ever stop. My feet begin to ache as if I've danced for days and I struggle through the pain in my feet.
There's a sound of a door opening and I stop and open my eyes. The light grows brighter and I squint; putting my hand up to try and protect my eyes.
"Mother." I call out.
I feel like I've woken up from a dream. My body is exhausted and cold. A light flashes in my eyes and when I put my hand up to shield my eyes I can see dozens of police officers. All of them pointing their guns at me.
"Where am I?" I find myself asking the officer that is closest to me and pointing his gun at me.
"Do not move Jessica or I will fire."
I can't understand why everyone is pointing a gun at me. How did I get here? Looking around I feel confused. This place is lonely. There is nothing but an empty field. The ground is covered in ash. When I look at my feet there is blood; blood and ash. My feet look raw as if I've been walking for miles, though I can't seem to feel it. Just looking at my bloodied feet makes my body fall. The officers continue to scream and threaten but as I look at my hands they too are covered in cuts, blood, bruises and ash…I'm naked.
My long chestnut hair has been cut and as I raise my hands up to my face, flashes come back of them. The football players.
"How bout it Bronwen. Take a ride with us. It'll be fun..."
"I said no Vincent!.."
"Come on you gave it up to James here why not all of us."
I can't help the fear that comes with these memories. The pain that builds itself not only in my body but deep within my core as I scream and the officers around me go into a panic.
I can see their faces. The way they all dragged me inside their car. The way they tied me up and gagged me until bringing me to the outskirts of town and then.
It's as if my pain has pushed it's way out of me and then. Fire. My hands glow pink and the ground around me begins to burn.
"What's happening to me?"
"Somebody please! Help me"
No matter how much I beg the officers around me have all retreated and then there's a woman. Blonde, pale skin with the greenest eyes I have ever seen. She glows with green flames stepping into my zone. It’s as if time has frozen around her and yet the officers continue to move though everything to me fades behind this woman. A woman who I am sure only I can see.
My body continues to react on it’s own and the flames around me increase. The sound of gunshots are heard and as they pass by this woman the bullets disintegrate in her green fiery orb. Her eyes look into my own pulling me in, leaving me off free will. Darkness begins to call my name and when I fight my flame intensifies. Her eyes flicker with something for just a moment and then she smiles as she increases her own flame.
Just like that. Unwillingly my body succumbs to the darkness as I feel her own flame engulf me in, taking away my breath...
