Life and Death

Death looked at Life with envy and hatred.

Life was beautiful.

She was the reason Death existed.

Life knew this.

She knew that without her,

There could be no Death.

But still, she admired Death.

She saw how he took care

Of the ones she couldn’t.

She knew some people didn’t want her.

Some people couldn’t resist

The temptation of Death.

Some people saw that Life wasn’t perfect.

Death couldn’t see Life’s flaws.

All he could see

Were the happy faces of the living

And the scared faces of the dead.

All he could hear were the sorrowful cries

Of those who only saw Death

As someone who had stripped them of happiness.

They didn’t see Death’s kindness.

They didn't see him wrap his arms

Around those who came to him willingly.

They didn’t see him cry every night

Because he knew he wasn’t as good as Life.

He knew the only ones who came to him willingly

Were the broken and the lost.

Life saw all this and more.

She decided to help Death.

She told him not to worry.

She told him that if it weren’t for him,

No one would appreciate Life.

If it weren’t for him, no one would help

The broken and lost.

Life dried Death’s tears.

She made him look her in the eyes

And told him of the great beauty she saw in him.

Death’s hatred melted away.

He realized his importance

In the balance of Nature.

And as the sun set,

Marking the end of another day,

Life and Death joined hands

And took in the beauty

Of the world they shared.

Our Love

Love is the root cause

Of some of the most intense feelings

Humans can have.

Love causes grief and sadness and joy.

Love can destroy people

Or save them.

I have found myself at its mercy

Now that you are part of my life.

You have torn me apart

And made me into something

I promised myself I would never be.

You have also saved me

From the darkest corners of my mind.

You have shown me I am enough.

You have shown me I can be loved.

You have also shown me anxiety

And obsession.

You have taught me doubt

And fear.

Love is looking into your eyes

And not being able to keep from smiling.

Love is looking into your eyes

And wishing I could trust you

Because I know how much I need you.

The truth is, you scare me

But I love you too much to run away.

I need your love.

You’re like a drug to me.

I will hold on as long as I can

And be fooled into thinking it’s good for me.

When it’s over,

I won’t know what to do with myself

But it may be for the best in the long run.

Our love is inconsistent.

It moves fast

And never slows down enough

For me to catch my breath.

Our love isn’t perfect,

But neither are we.

We make mistakes.

We say the wrong thing.

But through it all,

Our love has proved true.

It has been an adventure

And I know it will continue.

Know that I love you.

Know I couldn’t change that

Even if I wanted to.

Well, Hello!

Bang, crash, boom, squeal!

Hello?

Silence replies.

Shatter, crash, boom, bang!

You ok?

Still nothing.

Grunt, bump, smash, boom!

HELLO??????????????????????

White feathers fall down.

(That better not have been my favorite pillow.)

BANG, BOOM, CRASH, SHRIEK, CRACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A figure falls through the floor.

*Grunts and groans*

I walk over.

***

Well, it looks like my angel arrived.

Conflicting Love

I don’t want my heart to be yours.

I don’t want to be controlled by you.

I don’t want you to own me.

I don’t owe you anything.

I want to go back to being me.

I was me before you came into my life

And decided everything was going to go

According to your plan.

My life isn’t mine anymore.

I have to share it with you.

I have to run everything by you.

I can no longer be crazy and impulsive.

I can no longer be me

Because you don’t like the real me.

Has it ever crossed your mind

That I never asked for you to be in my life?

I never wanted you here.

I love to hate you

But I can’t deny that I love you.

I can’t deny that I hang onto your every word.

I can’t deny that you always

Put a smile on my face.

I love to hate you.

I hate that I love you.

There is a thin line between love and hate

And my feelings for you go back and forth

More than I would like to admit.

What would it take for me to let go?

What would it take for you to disappear

And leave me to pick up the broken pieces?

I don’t know if I’ll ever be free of you.

Sometimes I don’t know if I want to leave.

Sometimes I don’t know what I would do

If you were no longer in my life.

But then there are times

When I wish you would go

And allow me to live the rest of my life

Without you.

Challenge of the Week LXXV
"All is fair in love and war." Write about love, or war, or both. Fiction or nonfiction, poetry or prose, all's fair...

All is Fair

Love

Is a treacherous thing

It is not something to be messed with

Or taken lightly

It hurts

When it ends

War

Is a treacherous thing

It’s not something to be messed with

Or taken lightly

It hurts

While it’s happening

They both cause pain

They both end

With the promise

Of a new beginning

Love and war

Are sometimes the same

War can be caused by love

Love can feel like war

Love can be beauty

War can be pain

Love can be a reason for living

War can be a reason for death

Love can hurt

War can be getting a second chance

Love can be fighting for purpose

War can be standing up for your beliefs

But which is worse?

Which causes the most pain?

Losing loved ones to death

Or to life

Both consist of death

It is just a matter

Of if the death

Is of the body

Or the heart

Both consist of passion

It is just a matter

Of if the passion

Is of love for another being

Or of love for getting your way

Both destroy lives

Neither show mercy

All is fair in love and war

All is fair

Do what you must

Do what you want

All is fair

All is right

No one can stop them

No one can control them

We all try

To keep love and war

From controlling our lives

But it’s impossible

All is fair in love and war

They can’t be stopped

They can’t be controlled

Spend your life

Trying to stay away

And never realizing

That living

Is love

And living

Is war

They are inescapable

Stop trying

To run away

From life

All is fair in love and war

And nothing anyone will ever do

Will change that fact

Fall in Love

I believe

we fall in love with the soul

I could care less about bodies

when there is so much to get to know.

All the Angels -MCR

Dreaded phone call,

At the dead of night,

Raise out of bed,

Hurry to him.

He was brought away,

From the scene he made,

But it was our fault.

It was our fault,

He is gone,

Never to return,

Never to smile again.

Arrive to him,

Alone and guilty,

Watching him.

He only has minutes left,

Say goodbye.

He took his life,

The way he had promised,

If we left him alone,

And we left him alone.

It is our fault.

We should have,

Cared more,

Loved more,

Understood.

We all did it,

We are all sorry,

We are all guilty.

Find a better way,

To love,

Because we are all to blame.

He is dead because of us.

He is gone because of us.

We have killed him.

We are all to blame.

I Put Too Much Sugar in My Coffee

don’t tell me a life left loveless suffers the unsufferable

my poor heart speaks of the truths that are left unutterable

maybe someday we will realize that life is not fair

how can someone receive so much comfort from strangers

.

..

...and not share?

My Love

My love will forever last,

Don’t let me go,

If you do I fall fast,

Fast out my window.

Once I love you,

I will never stop caring,

When you walk through,

That door or look to me glaring.

I will love you forever,

Protect you at any cost,

You could love me never,

But without you I am lost.

My love will protect you,

And forever be true.

Challenge
Write a short story or poem that ends with the phrase: "...but it was all worth it."
Modifications to the last phrase are allowed (e.g. but in the end it was worth it/but it was worth.../etc), but the meaning must stay the same. Tag me on your comments @Vik_Blot

Worth it to Me

The agony, suffering,

The disappointment,

The hopes dashed,

Are all worth it.

Just seeing your face,

Is enough for me.

As long as you are happy,

I am happy,

Even if I am not with you,

Or you are not mine.

I would die for you,

But do not care if,

Or even want you to,

Die for me.

Exchanging my happiness,

For pain,

So you can be happy,

Would be worth it all.

Without you near me,

Life hurts,

But it was all worth it.
