Challenge of the Week XCVI
Goosebumps. It's that time of year. The genre is horror. Write something scary, something spooky, something that sends chills down the spine, causes goosebumps to prickle your reader's skin. There's a catch. This week you will write the first part of a two-part piece. Next week you'll finish the story you started. This week we're looking for a great start to the story. Next week we'll be looking for a strong finish. Fiction or non-fiction, poetry or Prose.

Darkness is nothing to Fear

If the lights are out,

Crystal clear or ocean blue,

Seaweed green and brownish too.

The tiny fish dart around like planes

Two start to race but neither gains.

But down below the water is black,

So dark and deep I want to turn back.

What is down and what is up?

I feel like this is all setup.

Then from the gloom I see a flash!

Then the water is dark as ash.

Suddenly it comes back so bright I hurled,

tiny fish now light up the world!

Such beauty is in this abyss,

This is something I could never miss!

Glittering jewels make up everything!

All these gemstones would make lots of bling.

So now you know the beauty of the water,

Please do not make it something you will slaughter.
