How is Man to struggle with God?

When his ears bleed

from the blast of 4 000 bombs

When his enemies

leech and snap like snarling dogs

When his prone body

serves to sharpen their teeth—

Hate is too weak

Peace was never an option

This animosity is a strangling vine

on the olive branch. Do not extend it

Man must stand with righteous aim

and fire back. No, not to maim—

Not merely to appease some

sick sense of "just enough"

Justice demands swift, precise response

Don't you dare dust off the buried

only to sacrifice—only to compromise again

Forgiveness rides a sharp edge

balanced on the blade of rage

angled ever so slightly by

the gravity of the situation

If I hold my breath I will lash out

a rush of words that cannot be unheard

relationships shredded by my tongue

Sometimes I don’t care who gets cut

It feels good to tear into those

who slash first. It feels just to kill

the ill-mannered, ill-tempered, but

the ill-prepared will not bear my wrath

I will hear the words they excuse themselves with

I will breathe evenly, even when I want to scream

For my ire is worth more than the pinprick of annoyance

My anger is powerful, potent, and poised

for battle, not trivial trials and error

If I cannot hold my tongue like a whip

I have no claim to the title warrior

it's not always a three-piece, it's

a t-shirt torn to shreds in the wilderness

A tearful cry that won't be stifled

by propriety. It's a smile

cast like a die, where the number

lands face-first in the dirt, but he climbs on

unconcerned. That's all fate is worth

to a real man

The cold does not care what he prays for

He takes it—not from someone unsuspecting—

From absence, Man hauls life in like a rope

Out of nothingness, he drills hope

For a future,

Back on earth, his worth is more than might.

You want Masculinity? Take a mind and tell it

it's a bad thing to be so small to have to fight to survive but

there's no enemy in sight, so take that weakness inside

and kill it

Let him scream on the front lines. Let him build

forever in his mind, a bruise-black fortress, not a palace—

Give him time, and a real man defines himself. Capture

his imagination and admire the future he lives up to. You know
